Jane Austen and Me

I and Emma have a short way to go, only a hundred pages or less. Pleased, am I? I wouldn’t dare to say so, for I have started taking real interest in her. It was a bit easier to be interested in ‘Pride and Prejudice’ then in ‘Emma’. May it be because I had curiosity of exploring real story behind Bride and Prejudice, for I had never read of seen Pride and Prejudice before.

Such a destruction of story, I must say! For Pride and Prejudice [the book, since I haven’t still seen movie] is much more engaging and interesting then B&P. Ash, in all her glory, didn’t suited to the character of Elizabeth, in my opinion.

Let me discuss my opinions of the books one by one.

  Pride and Prejudice

Engaging, if not utterly interesting. I was prejudiced against Elizabeth’s prejudice and liked a bit dark shade of Darcy’s character due to his pride.

I read this book last year and was on realization of how easily we misjudge people, of how we may give wrong impressions of our selves. I was tempted to finish this novel during my exams.

Emma

Though I am still not done with this novel, I must explain how I felt while reading this novel, which actually seemed my idea to write about in this entry.

I was bored! I had prejudices against Emma rising even before hundred pages of this book. I wasn’t able to digest her looking down to Mr. Elton, which she kind of did. [No, I wasn’t in favor of Mr. Elton at all, but still] Don’t we call this kind of behavior racist now days? But then I realized that the book is written in 19th century! There was a complete different world out then [so what if human nature still manages to be same way, with a few changes in general]

I then left reading Emma, spend much on time online, doing nothing and then I read four novels in a row, in a week and went back to Emma again, for I wished for a slow paced read now and glad was I to pick it up again!

I no more have prejudices against Emma. And Mr. Elton now is non-existent [wasn’t I glad for it!]. Mr. Elton sure deserved someone like Mrs. Elton. Mrs. Weston is a character that is so similar to Bai’s. Mr. Woodhouse asks for such a care and can be as nervy as mom when it comes about gatherings at home [at times, though mom has a better spirit for fun]. Mr. Knightly, I like him, with all his honest comments. Mr. John Knightly makes me want to resolute on not to marry. Emma’s sister! Oh! How she dots on her husband! Miss Bates, for sure I have a share of such a character and that as a student of mine. Jane Fairfax, very cautious. Frank Churchill, too cheesy.

Have just read about Harriet’s desire to not to marry. Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill? Might happen. Mr knightly and Emma? Isnt my imagination working as well?

Now that I am done with providing bits and pieces of how I feel about the book and character, I must take my leave for I have to get ready and go to REC.

I read both of these books looong looong ago.Dont remember much of Emma, all I remember that it was a very very slow paced book and I left it many times in the middle and then later on came back to it, I loved P&B. It was so goood and I loved every character in it. Jane Austen is one of my favourite classics
