I like the way you die, boy.

Yesterday was a great day. I went to a city about an hour’s drive away because my town is tragically lacking in shopping and eating opportunities and I still had a fifty-dollar Barnes & Noble gift card from Christmas that I needed to spend. I went with Mom and Boyfriend and we ate at Noodles & Company (one of my favorite eateries) and trolled the bookstore for a couple hours. I ended up buying six books and am very happy with my purchases.

I bought:

  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Other Stories by Lewis Carroll
  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
  • Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Chronicles (Vol. 1) by Bob Dylan

I am a self-proclaimed bookworm but there are still quite a few of the so-called "classics" that I haven’t read yet (the aforementioned four being an example). I have decided that 2013 will be "The Year of The Classics." That doesn’t mean I won’t read other books that aren’t considered classics but most of my attention will be paid to those that are. In addition to the books listed above, I will be reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dracula by Bram Stoker, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien and any others I can think of that spark my interest. My mom also bought two books (Little Wolves by Thomas Maltman and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn) which are fairly modern novels but seem intriguing and I am going to read those as well.

Is it apparent that I like to read yet? We ended our shopping trip with ice cream at Coldstone Creamery. All in all, a perfect Wednesday.

The Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning. So far, I’ve only seen one of the Best Picture nominees (Django Unchained). Incidentally, I loved it so that’s the movie I’ll be rooting for. I’m fairly certain Lincoln will be the resounding Oscar winner, though. I never miss the Academy Awards but I usually only see one or two of the nominees before the ceremony. Usually I’ll root for movies that sound most interesting to me or root for actors that I really like. I always end up watching all the nominees anyway. It seems like this year has a lot of good nominees and I can’t wait to watch and see the outcome. Also… Seth MacFarlane as the host? This I gotta see!

Film and literature are two of my favorite things if you haven’t noticed. 2013 seems to be a good year for both! Let the entertainment begin!
