my day of rest that wasn’t

I decided today I needed a quiet day at home, and its too damp and windy outside to do gardening so I planned to really take it easy.  I had been expecting a lunch visitor, an old friend (long time) who now lives up north but is in town, and she did arrive…we talked non-stop for nearly 3 hours.

I had spent the morning in the kitchen putting together a nice asparagus quiche which was a nice feed, but was a different kind to what I used to make so glad it turned out ok. I made it without a pastry base, just using small thin rounds of potato in the bottom of the dish instead, adding a wee bit of tomato, an onion, grate cheese and then the asparagus….smothered then with a well seasoned egg/cheese mixture. Mina arrived a wee bit late so I washed all those dishes before she got here, had a cuppa, then she was here.

By the time she left I was all talked out and almost drowning in cups of tea, but it was a lovely overdue catchup. I’d not seen her for more than 3 years so plenty news to exchange.

Before she arrived I had also wandered around the garden to check on how it was coping with the strong gusty winds. My poor poppies were getting a battering and in one of them a bumblebee was struggling to do his work too.I took a few photos but now not sure if I am still able to share photos on OD. I cannot see an icon up top for that, can anyone please advise me? Thanks.

Anyway….just a few minutes after Mina left I decided to take a nananap on the sofa, but neighbour Maria arrived. I suggested she can make us our drinks today as I was tired, and she happily obliged. Maria knows her way well around my kitchen by now.

Finally I need to make a phone call. Had my Skin Check yesterday ( postponed from last week because of my eye surgery) and I need to query the bill that just arrived through….it was far more than expected.  Maria was shocked when I mentioned the amount and suggested I remind them I have a Community Services Card which is supposed to give a good discount on medical matters (amongst other things).   I  rang just now but it went onto answerphone so I left a message.

Tomorrow is a public holiday locally so I doubt I will hear back until after the weekend now.
