What’s the most bizarre nickname you’ve ever had?
Maria Ria Ria Hoo Hoo. It was chanted throughout the entire 5th grade lunch room. I’m not sure what happened but it started with one popular girl chanting “Maria Ria Ria Hoo Hoo”-fist pumped in the air, the entire thing. Which then led to the entire class of so called “popular” kids chanting as well. Fabulous. I was the gawky, gangly, weird kid. I had glasses, braces, skinnier than a twig, and just there. I remember turning red and begging the lunch ladies to stop the nonsense-did they nope. Why would they? It was full on Jerry Springer chanting…..but twas also the inside recess where I met what would become one of my best friends until my mid 20’s.
I never had a weird nickname but my best friend did – I called her “mealworm”….we met in the 6th grade. The origin of that nickname is a long and convoluted one, but I called her that until the day she passed away 14 years ago.
@schrecken13 I’m sorry of the loss of your friend. 🙁 I sadly no longer have much contact with said friend mentioned in post. :/ As we got older my values didn’t align with hers and she chose to back away, which all I can do is respect and wish her well. <3

I was called ‘Man’ in grades 7-8 because my last name ended in man. In music class, the christmas carol “O Come O Come Emanuel” was sung with emphasis on the man syllable, everyone giggling because they knew the inside secret. Pretty tough for a girl who was mistaken for a boy on more than one occasion.
@elkay 🙁 Thats terrible; as a girl whose name is Maria, I had that issue a lot with songs; especially going to a Catholic school that had mandated mass days. Ava Maria was terrible and it was every May for 8 years. So many Maria songs 🤣
@showerconfessions Ah yes, I attended 12 yrs of Catholic school and feel your pain. Haven’t been to church in 30 yrs, but thanks for the Ave Ma-reeeee-a earworm 😉
@elkay 🤣🤣🤣 I also attended 12 years of Catholic school! 1-8th was elementary with the same kids 🙄 Then I chose to attend 4 years of an all girls school….I attend for funerals aside from that I’m thinking its close to 12 years for me?
