end of the year

The end of the year was pretty good. I got all the students shirts that they could have their classmates sign and they loved them. I played a joke on the boys and put their shirts in food boxes like lil debbie snack cakes, rice krispies etc and one I put a fake spider in because he’s always trying to trick us with spiders. On the last day of school A’s mom came and gave me and the teacher a gift bag which had a card and a bag of caramel chocolates and she told us that she could tell we really cared for A and saw the progress she was making unlike the prior year where she wasn’t expected to do work and just got to color and the para didn’t do much with her during specials when she was capable of doing things you just had to stay close by because of her fear of male students but this year she did very well and not just in specials but also in class in general. The principal said she could come to our family nights next year so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing her and finding out how she is doing. I’m going to wait til maybe the first week of school and then maybe send a postcard to them to see how their year is going and I try to check in with some former students too. Technically paras aren’t supposed to know students addresses because we aren’t supposed to keep in touch but if teachers can why can’t we. These kids deserve to know someone cares about them and wants to know how they are doing. I don’t go beyond that just check in every once in a while and see how they are doing. So now I am working sped summer school for park district doing art. It’s going pretty good. It’s interesting to have preschool up to high school  students in one place but it seems to go pretty good. Tomorrow is the 4th me and hubby will probably go somewhere but we don’t really get into 4th of July like we used to when we were younger. So we will see. I want to drive to a park out of town but don’t know if hubby will want to.
