The Canadian Seal Slaughter

As a canadian, I am absolutely sickened by what is about to take place on the Newfoundland shores in a couple weeks from now.

The Canadian Government is allowing the murder of over 975,000 innocent seals, 95% of which are babies, not even a month old. Those people who are responsible for this senseless crime claim that it’s necessary because the seals’ population is responsible for dwindling cod in the area. The only problem is there’s no scientific proof of this. In fact, the low number of cod is due to overfishing, not because of the seals in the area.

The slaughter of thousands of innocent animals continues over the pelts, and nothing more. A baby seal only has their pristine white coat for a few days, and that’s the time when it’s worth the most money in the fur industry. Millions of baby seals have died a bloody and brutal death for the fashion industry.

As baby seals are brutally clubbed on the head, sometimes continuously until they die a slow and painful death, the adult mothers can do little other than try to escape, or to protect their young. The ice that used to be their home ends up a bloody, red mess. Many of those baby seals are skinned while they are still alive.

Everytime I think of this happening, I burst into tears. I am so angry that as a Canadian, I hadn’t even been aware that this was happening in this day and age. I was unaware until I saw Paul McCartney and his wife on Larry King, trying to get the word out about this terrible crime.

We have to do something about this. Please, do what you can to help get the word out about this unspeakable horror. We can’t let this continue any longer. Those innocent baby seals that will soon be slaughtered have not even been born yet. In a couple weeks, they will come into this world, only to be murdered cruely.

Send a email or letter to your government officials, and let them know you boycott Canadian fish products until the Seal Hunt is stopped. If you’re Canadian, send an email or letter to Prime Minister Steven Harper. The two most important contacts are listed below.
