From The Gridiron To The Diamond

I am so glad that Super Bowl 58, as well as the 2023 NFL season, have finally come to an end.  I reached a point some weeks ago where I was just tired about hearing about Taylor Swift and her relationship with Travis Kelce.  I have also reached my limit as far as hearing about the Kansas City Chiefs’ dynasty and how they have won three of the four Super Bowls in which they have appeared.  I had hoped that the San Francisco 49ers would have won Super Bowl 58, but in the end, it just wasn’t to be.  I’m sure that the other 31 teams that didn’t win the Super Bowl this past season are all saying today, “Well, there’s always next season”.  Indeed, this will hold true for me and my team and I will once again be hopeful that my Cincinnati Bengals can get it together for the long haul and serve as some form of competition to those damn Chiefs.

While we’ll have the NFL Draft in April, I won’t be thinking about any form of football until next August.  Until then, I will set my sights on the coming Major League Baseball season.  I have to think that there are high hopes in Cincinnati for the upcoming Reds season, as promising as the 2023 season was.

I don’t really care about what’s going on in the NBA, being that their brand of basketball is very difficult to watch these days.  There’s just something about everyone in the league jacking up three’s left and right, big men included, that doesn’t seem right.  I can’t watch it anymore and I haven’t for many years.  Even as I write this, I’m wondering if the annual NBA All-Star Weekend has happened yet.  I don’t think it has, but I honestly don’t say that with any measure of confidence.  I wouldn’t put any money on it.

I don’t follow the NHL or any form of hockey.  I wasn’t exposed to the game when I was younger and never got into the game.  I have watched a hockey game on TV once, but that was only for the social component of it and not because I genuinely cared about what was taking place on the ice.

Sports have always been a part of my life.  It’s always going to be a seasonal thing for me.  Just as the weather changes, the sport of the season changes with it.  As the weather heats up, I know that it’ll be time for baseball.  When things cool back down, football will soon be in full swing.

As I said, it’s all very seasonal.
