Tragedy Averted
I just happened to be browsing yahoo.com as I do from time to time and I stumbled upon a story regarding Bronny James, the oldest son of one LeBron James. Bronny suffered cardiac arrest today during a workout at USC’s Galen Center. From what I understand, he is stable and more importantly, he’s alive. Now, I don’t care for LeBron James as a basketball player and I have nothing against his family, but no matter how I might feel about a person, I would never wish cardiac arrest on anyone. Cardiac arrest is one of those things that you don’t always come back from. I hope that he doesn’t have any lasting damage or something about his heart that could compromise his college basketball career. I don’t even say that as a USC alum. I’m saying that as a person.
Heart conditions aren’t the kind of thing that just happen, like when you shove your foot into a wall out of anger. People can and ought to control their anger. Heart-related things are just there sometimes. Sometimes these are there at birth. Sometimes the heart gets damaged throughout the course of one’s life. In Bronny’s case, I don’t know if this has been fully diagnosed, but suffice it to say that he should be grateful that he is alive today.
I was definitely not expecting to see this kind of story on Yahoo’s front page, but damn, there it was. I’m sure that this is a developing story and one that will have a lot more added to it as time progresses. This boy is 18-years old and theoretically should have plenty of life ahead of him.
