Quick Update
Meeting with lawyer went well yesterday. Selling the house is now out of our hands, as we wait for the appraisal from the bank. It could take a week, it could be up to a month.
Husband of the buying couple stopped over yesterday to pick up our copy of the signed offer. They will come back after the appraisal to look through our “junk-it” pile (couch, kitchen table, spare bed in basement, 2-3 old bookshelves). Anything they don’t want will be trashed, but I’d rather they use it if they want it.
Today is my niece’s birthday party. Will be the first time seeing extended family since all the shit happened last week. Hope to avoid conversations about buying Grandpa’s house, but I think it will be the hot topic.
Planning to return to new town tomorrow and Monday to see two homes – maybe more, if anything else pops up. Then, leaving the boys with my parents for the rest of the week, because M and I have a child-free wedding to attend on Friday up north.
“You don’t have to attend every fight you’re invited to.” If somebody else brings up the subject, you don’t have to participate in the discussion. Walk away, change the subject, answer “no comment,” — whatever. Remember the Serenity Prayer? “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, & the wisdom to know the difference.” You certainly can’t change them (or anybody else for that matter) but you can change yourself. Good luck!
@ghostdancer it ended up not coming up at all. At least not to us, directly. M did overhear two of my relatives talking about it, but everyone kind of avoided the topic with us.
We did answer a lot of questions and have a lot of talk about the move, in general; but I think the topic of Grandpa’s house was mostly avoided. Which was good.
