set the past blazing
just torch it
it’s dead

the past is not a home

this isn’t mournful
this isn’t valedictory
this isn’t scornful
the future could be goddamned brilliant
if we stop living in that dead dead past
wasting our time
trying to make the spent things last
but we can’t if we allow ourselves
to overly attach
so let us take what’s come before
and fucking roast it
let it burn bright blue
let it burn until we’re new
again
