things just couldn’t be the same
cuz I’m using free verse now

and the structure gets quite strange
you’re not stuck in that old cage
sometimes doesn’t even rhyme

I used to lean on alliteration
and some well-defined scansion
I’d homogenized my syntax
into a McMansion

but if I tried to stick to couplets
