אני קושית יפה/I’m a Cute Black Girl Pg 66
With Chanukah approaching I have been spending the last few days looking up recipes of Chanukah treats I will be making on Saturday, even though I cannot eat any of them, and I have been on the prowl for a Chanukiah.
My sister gave me one of hers and I love it, but I would like something of my own. Well after some looking I realized that they are not so cheap…
a simple but beautiful Chanukiah like this, would set me back about a couple of Thousand Rand. And right now I cannot budget for that. So today I shlepped to the Chabbad Synagogue to get a ‘Throw Away’ one. The box didn’t make it look very enticing. But I suppose it will suffice since on Sunday night at my synagogue we will be lighting the first candle and sharing our Oily Treats.
I can’t believe this year is coming to a close. I have learnt so much and I have gained so much and as crazy as it may seem that a Black Girl, who is married to a Christian Guy is finally finding her place in life in the Jewish Community. Well now that I write that I am thinking how I have always been part of the Jewish Community, but I guess now I am making it official.
One of my friend’s moms grew up Jewish. Her father was Israeli and her mother was Indian, but she grew up in England. She made a whole host of delicious concoctions from all those areas. Some kind of braided bread, latkes with sour cream or applesauce, bagels, curries and samosas. Yum.
Is there a difference between a Chanukiah and a Menorah?
Yes there is a difference. A menorah is a Jewish emblems and it is just 8 branches for a candles where a Chanukiah is a candle stick holder for Chanukah only and it has 9 candle stick branches.
@ncumisa I learn something new every day. Happy Chanukah.
Glad to have taught you something new. 😘 Thank you for the Chanukah Blessing. 😘
