Day 4 evening edition
Picked up Chance from school He didn’t know I was coming. He walked out with the girl we gave a ride to this morning. He was so funny when he looked up and saw me. He walked over
Chance: why are you here
Me: thought I would pick you up and we would run down to the Moore place and ride the fence I saddled Blonde for you to ride.
Chance: she is just a friend
Me: ok
Chance: She is, so don’t even
Me: Ok
Chance: I got a tardy and a D on my test
Me: Ok
Chance: I tossed my shoe you ruin
Me: I can see that
Chance: I forgot to get my homework out of my locker
Me: ok
He was so determined for me not to ask anything about his little friend, he was willing to get a lecture even grounded for me not to ask about her. Have to admit I wanted to dive into it. But we just rode fence and shifted a few yearlings to a different pasture
Me: Hey Buddy you want to talk about what’s going on with your mom
Chance: why did you ask that
Me: we really needed to
Chance: Not now it’s a good day you just want to mess it up just stop
Me: I didn’t say we had to I said we could if you want to
Chance: Well, I don’t want to talk about her, I don’t want to talk about my shoe, I don’t want to talk about my friend, I do want to talk about dinner
Me: Jay’s again, I guess, but we can’t keep eating out every night
Chance: better than dying from food poisoning.
Me: that will get better the crock pot came
Chance: Do you even know how to use that
Me: it has instructions
You never read ’em.
Me: kind of harsh today ait you
Chance: truth hurts (as he laughed and took off in a dead run-on Blonde)
I’m still not sure if he is being a Butthead are serious. I never realized how bullheaded he is when he makes up his mind, it’s like talking to a fence post. I know he misses his mom and she hurt him just leaving. I guess I need to vent on that myself but later. Jays had a fried chicken special. One of Chance’s favorites
Chance wants something he is hanging out in the living room. So guess I should stop and see if he talks
I have been reading your entries and I just wanted to tell you that you are doing a fantastic job navigating a very difficult situation. From one single parent to another- GOOD JOB!
@scarlettlee thanks, hard to know what battles to fight with him for now I feel like he is always testing me if that makes sense.
He is testing you. He’s trying to establish that you are there for him and not also leaving. It is a normal kid response.
@cozzet I hope so I know he is confused, he has to be I know I am
@circlet He is absolutely testing you. Just keep doing what your doing. Don’t react in annoyance or upset. Just keep reinforcing that you’re there for him and doing the best you can while learning all of this. As long as a child has one consistent loving influence in their life, they will be a-okay.
@scarlettlee had not to react

Eleven year old kids are buttheads. That’s normal. I’m glad you opened the conversation about his mom leaving. It shows him he can talk to you about it even if right now he can’t. I’m sure it’ll take awhile to process.
Another crockpot idea: chicken and bbq sauce. Add extra bbq, making sure it’s drenched. 6 hours, low. Throw some foil wrapped potatoes in the oven at 350, 1 hr. Boil some veggies a few minutes so they aren’t mushy.
I’m glad you both are around horses. They are so therapeutic. <3
@celestialflutter I’ll try that We spend a lot of time on horseback, he wants to take his friend as he calls her riding tomorrow she has never been. still thinking about it
