so sad but beautiful

I was just outside and let my fiancé’s roommates dog out. When I went out he walked over the small amount of dirt to the grass to lay down. Right where the dirt (actually mud-dish dirt) and grass met I suddenly saw a small light flickering. It was a firefly. It was a firefly in the path of where the dog walked. It laid there in the connection of dirt and grass flickering it’s light over and over and over again. It stayed there flickering like it was trying to show anyone it was still alive, calling for help. I’ve never seen a firefly flicker so quickly and constantly before. I felt it dying. I then saw another firefly, lit up longer than I’ve ever seen one lit consistently, acting like a lantern rather than the quick flick of a lighter. It made it’s way closer to the quick SOS flickering of the firefly on the ground..the firefly, crushed but not dead by the dog quite yet, slowly lessened it’s quickening SOS signal; the other smaller firefly still fully lit, making it’s way to it until the dying firefly stopped flickering. It was dark for a few moments till a small light hovered around where the dying firefly was.

It was beautiful.
