Saddam Hussein executed for war crimes

AP – 1 hour, 15 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Saddam Hussein struggled briefly after American military guards handed him over to Iraqi executioners. But as his final moments approached, he grew calm. He clutched a Quran as he was led to the gallows, and in one final moment of defiance, refused to have a hood pulled over his head before facing the same fate he was accused of inflicting on countless thousands during a quarter-century of ruthless power.

The man was evil and deserved punishment, maybe even death.  I don’t know.  To me, death isn’t a punishment.  It’s release.  You are free from your body and from your human nature and the physical world.  How is that a punishment?  But then again, I don’t believe in Hell.

What I find irnoic is America’s attitude towards this man.  How is it that people can forget that America supported this man in his war against Iran.  We supplied him with weapons.  He was considered an ally during the Regan era.  He was an evil dictator, but we backed him and turned a blind eye back then.

Just for once, I want someone in our government to have some integrity.  To own up to the mistakes we’ve made.  We’re not perfect and the US government has made it’s share of bad mistakes.  Why can’t someone just admit that?

I am soooo happy that you recognize that the Americans are basically the ones that put him into power!!! It is so rare to find someone that actually knows that. People here are so quick to condemn him based only on what they hear. In my opinion, and please forgive me if i offend anyone, but Saddam Hussein was the only one crazy enough to handle people there. He kept order as well as he could

while he was in power. And he used the only method he knew how….which was to go one step further in his threats….if you didn’t obey him, he didn’t just threaten to kill you, he was going to kill your father, mother, brother, wife, kids, etc. publicly in the streets. I’m not condoning what he did, but if you really think about it, he got things done, and he controlled them. Because it’s crazy

as hell over there. You have to be crazy yourself to deal with them. Which is exactly what he was. Watching excerpts of his trial on TV broke my heart, as “evil” as he was, he was at least passionate about what he believed in…it was almost admirable. (watch me get put on the CIA watch-list because of this! 🙂 ) —
