I’m cleaning up the yard and removing the weeds that grow on the side of the house. As I’m pulling up these weeds, I’m hearing a bird scolding me. I look up and it’s a small finch or sparrow type bird, spreading its wings and being very vocal. I’m assuming I’m getting too close to its nest in the camellia bush at the corner of the house. I acknowledge the bird’s presence and keep pulling up the weeds. I’m at the last couple of weeds and as I pull them out, I see the nest, right up against the foundation of the house. I’m mortified. I’ve pulled up all the weeds, can’t replant them. So I do the next best thing and place a couple of pots around the nest. A dill plant and a flowering sage. I hope that works and mom will feel safe enough to return and hatch her babies.
Wow, that’s unusual for a bird to put her nest on the ground.
@happyathome – I thought it was unusual, too, until I did some research. There are a few local birds that do nest on the ground. Learn something new every day.
