How Should Ukraine Proceed?
Voronezh is a city in Russian within range of Ukraine’s artillery, or if not that, drones supplied by Turkey. Ukraine needs to hit back, and draw civilian blood on Russian soil. Tit for tat. All NATO forces need to co-ordinate attacks on Russian cities that are the easiest targets.
This aggression is not about Ukraine. It is about the will of former members of the USSR to repulse any attempt, on the part of Russia, to take back those independents countries.
Many of the countries have become members of NATO. As members of NATO, they are supported by a massive military machine, largely funded by the United States. We, the United States, have funded the purchase, on the part of Ukraine, weapons from a variety of countries. Ukraine has deployed, for example, drones produced in Turkey, which have proved effective against tanks and armored personnel carriers.
It has been my thesis, for some time, that the downfall of the Soviet Union came about when the Soviet military realized that their tanks were useless against the American A-10 Warthog. On background, the A-10 is a flying Gatling gun. It can pause in mid-air, tilt its gun downward, and fire (extremely hard) spent uranium rounds at a tank, at the resonant frequency* of the tank, and cause the tank to crack and fall apart. That fact told the Russian military that their tanks were useless, and that any plans to invade Europe, using those tanks, would not go well. Ergo, notions of taking back Eastern Europe, let alone Western Europe, relying upon their tank force, were considered to be nonviable.
So, why did Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin send troops to take control of Crimea? For one thing, it was an easy test of the resolve of Ukraine, and more importantly, the United States, to defend Ukraine. The important date is 18 March 2014. It was during the Presidency of Barack Obama. Nothing was done to oppose Russian aggression. The damage was done. In the perception of Putin, nothing would be done to fulfill our obligations to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
What are those obligations, you might ask? Under the Nunn-Lugar arrangement, Ukraine gave up it possession of Soviet-era nuclear missiles. The missiles were removed from their silos. The fissile materials were removed from them, and sent back to Russia for re-processing. The missiles were dismantled. The silos were dynamited and destroyed. In return for Ukraine co-operation, the territorial integrity of Ukraine was guaranteed by the United States, France, and, ironically, Russia. To say the least, Russia has not fulfilled the obligation. During the invasion and annexing of Crimea, Obama did nothing.
It is good to hear that the people of Ukraine are well-armed, and ready to fight. It is a model, for the general population of the U.S., that has been opposed, by the Left, for many years. It is said that many Ukraine women are purchasing high-powered hunting rifles. These are not purchased for hunting deer or antelope. It is good that so many Ukraine women have spent time in the military and know how to handle such weapons. And know who the enemy is, who must be stopped.
You are entirely right, at least I think so. How are you guys?
Warning Comment
