Ten ways to confront the climate crisis without losing hope
The world as we knew it is coming to an end, and it’s up to us how it ends and what comes after. It’s the end of the age of fossil fuel, but if the fossil-fuel corporations have their way the ending will be delayed as long as possible, with as much carbon burned as possible. If the rest of us prevail, we will radically reduce our use of those fuels by 2030, and almost entirely by 2050. We will meet climate change with real change, and defeat the fossil-fuel industry in the next nine years…
Rebecca Solnit
One of our finest living essay writers is Rebecca Solnit. She writes with innovation and style about so many subjects, including my hometown of New Orleans. Here she ponders in her own inimitable way the climate crisis facing the world. Instead to penning a screed of doom and gloom, she reveals ten ways we as individuals can confront this looming crisis and, yes, make a difference. Hope is what she offers, and really that and putting our global ingenuity and will to the task will carry us out of the dire scenarios for future of the planet.
Here is the article:
Interesting. But, what if I told you that actually there is no climate crisis or a global climate emergency of any kind? That we, the people, are seeing and hearing about are actually signs and messages that our Lord and Savior Jesus is actually on his way back? That all the very strange weather, out of control wildfires, the heating of our planet, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes and every major global calamity, including the coronavirus pandemic is actually a fullfillment of ancient Biblical prophecy, not from a very uneducated teen climate activist. Yea, I’ve written three speeches on the very topic and got standing ovations for it. David.
@wda2 Yes, it’s true that for those who read and study the Bible daily as I do, the events of this year sound like prophetic end times. The difference now is that we know precisely why the fires, floods, droughts and global warming are afflicting humankind. Humans themselves have created these conditions by their avarice, greed and lack of any concern for future generations. They have plundered the Earth of it’s resources and ruined the atmosphere and oceans. Yes, we pitifully short-sighted creatures have brought this entirely upon ourselves. The climate crisis is very real. But, there is hope and we must believe that.
There is no conflict between science and Biblical prophecy, just as there is no conflict between science and religion. Fundamentalists and Biblical literalists who fail to use their minds, also fail to understand this.
@oswego Actually, there is no climate crisis or emergency that the teen climate activists or our world leaders are saying about, what we, mankind is actually seeing is signs and messages that do truthfully point out that yes, we are in or are going to be in the last days that will ultimately signal the return of our Lord and Savior back to Earth, there’s no doubt about it. However, you did point out that yes, there is no conflict between science and religion, just as we, humans, are under no such obligation to be trying to save the planet from something such as the so-called climate crisis that truthfully and realisticly doesn’t exist. The actual reason why we all are witnessing the floods, the fires, the global heat waves and every other calamity in our lifetime, is because of God’s judgment upon mankind for turning from him and giving into sin, But, it is written in the book of Genesis that we can only cultivate, tend and respect the Earth. But, we, the people, cannot bow down, love and worship the Earth because the Earth is absolutely not our mother, there is no Mother Earth, only Father God, the creator of our planet and mankind, from the very beginning of time till now in the 21st Century. And that is absolutely why we all should praise him, and instead of the creation, as what all these teen climate activists and other environmentists have been doing. Yet, did you know that these kind of uneducated teen climate activists are actually under a very strong delusion? Yes, those are the kind of people that actually worship the creation over the creator, as it is written from the first chapter of the book of Romans. Why do they like to make up all these very ridiculous and pathetic climate protests? Because they all have said in their own hearts and minds and souls that there is no God, when there is a God. My point is very simple, yes, climate change is real, but the only problem is that God the Father is in absolute control of what goes on in our lives, our planet and when it comes to addressing about the climate and the environment. Why? Because for it is written that Almighty God was the one who created everything from the beginning, including us, humans, from the dust of the Earth. So, if someone says that the climate crisis is real, that person is actually failing or is so very uneducated to see the absolute spiritual logic that there is nothing wrong with our planet’s climate, it is more like there is absolutely something very tragic and very wrong with mankind itself with turning away from God and embracing sin. Our only remaining true hope is for mankind to turn back to God the Father in these very atrocious and very catastrophic times. Yes, it will actually get even more worse before it really gets better. As it is written and foretold from very, very long ago till now.
David.
