Impact of the Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict
Two positive results might come out of the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict.
There is, of course, the affirmation of the right to carry a weapon in public, and to use that weapon (shoot and/or kill someone who threatens your life).
There is also the role of armed citizens to stop the destruction of property in the absence of police departments ordered to not interfere with such destruction. (Who, among the framers of the Constitution could have imagined such insanity as “defunding the police” and telling them to “step down” in the face of rioting and burning businesses?)
Did the framers of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights ever imagine that the Freedom of the Press that they so enshrined would be involved in wholesale propaganda against the Constitutional Rights of citizens?
By the same reasoning, if the Right to Keep and Bare Arms is to be infringed, then so is the Freedom of the Press to write or say whatever they fucking want to without reference to either fact or truth.
You are living in a bubble. Most people think it’s wrong to take a gun to a protest looking to kill someone, telling people you want to kill people, then killing people and saying it was self defense. If the jury had been allowed to know all the facts I don’t think that monster would be found not guilty. Honestly, I’m just sorry liberals are such decent people that we don’t take the law into our hands more often. I really hope one of us with little to lose will also use some “self defense” against someone. As for Rittenhouse, I’m just hoping instant karma turns out to be real.
@scarletibis Read the transcript of the trial, then re-consider what you have written, or not.

You missed the leading clause of the 2nd: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State…” There is no such qualifying clause in the 1st amendment. The Founders never meant for individuals to act as individual policemen.
@solovoice “A well regulated Militia” means one that is properly equipped … with modern weapons.
@spoo I do hope you’re being facetious…

As usual, I’m on the other side of the fence, and agree both with Scarlet Ibis and solovoice. But I don’t suppose that’s much of a surprise — we’ve been butting heads as long as we’ve known each other.
Hope you’re going to have a nice Thanksgiving. Will your daughter be there?
