Wanton Geography

when I,
as an adult demigod
drank from leaden lips
the sun burnt away
the serpentine elements
of my cold eyes

I saw a beating pulse
beneath the flesh
of an innocent throat

I ponder my own
guiltlessness
delivered up in
decadence

these hallowed dreams
in which

I’ve made every maiden
a bleeding mouth

with a single kiss

as my teeth have torn
the taste from within

I’ve turned Love
into an upward slope
fountain of the faithless

forever and ever unable
to quench any thirst

were I but anemic
my unforged tongue
would bear stitches
to hold back
lacerations

but alas
my eyes aren’t scarlet
and at sunrise
I don’t fear her coming
in ecstasy or sway

no manner of plateau
is important
because neither of us
can stay

as the sun rises further
shadows of lust
runaway
