Canonical Sweetheart

your weariness
collects in my lungs
like the edge of winter
I can’t shrug off
my shoulders
hold the shadows
as the sky
floods full of cadavers

breathing or believing
the miracle
is deceiving
just long enough
you’re bleeding
strong enough
now you’re leaving

so if bleeding is believing
the tyranny is receiving
a beaten box full flowers
the catacombs
disasters
genocide, homicide
resonate as answers

your weariness
is a glass knife
sliding down my throat
piercing the twilight
breaking the dawn
the daylight

retrospect
I face awakening
there seems nothing
that can summate

there’s a gray sky
granite surface
sullen skin

as bleeding is believing
upon this altar of life
every moment yields
every breath a sacrifice
every memory
a new martyr
every childhood friend
a religious sect

you’re a Christ
you’re a Judas
you spell the world
with populations in comas
war isn’t treason
peace is intermission
smiles anomalous

the sky remains gray
the sky retains the gray
the sky retards the day
the sky obliges me

time is not bipartisan
the sun beset the lion
the sphere and helix
chasm

the words within your marrow
the sounds become too narrow
a silver cord of 30 pieces
justice for the unborn legions

some day the sky
will obliterate the sea
until then
there’s ash for me
