Vestibular?
Deep breath….
Here we go…
So on Sunday when we got home from vacation everything seemed ok. We had a cheerful reunion with the kids and then lazed around the house.
Monday we started to notice Rosie didn’t want to really eat, but she would with some encouragement. Last I remember her really drinking (from her water dish) was Monday night… a really big drink.
By Monday night she wouldn’t eat anything. Tuesday, she wouldn’t eat breakfast and by Tuesday night we got her into the vet before the emergency hours started. The on-call vet is one of our favorites and took blood test and found nothing wrong with Rosie. But she was concerned because it was pretty obvious Rosie was not a happy and healthy girl. She got fluids and a script for her ear infection and an anti-nausea med and an appitite stimulant. We were home by 1 a.m.
We went home hoping that she would start to feel better. Wednesday, she couldn’t walk straight. She was staggering and circling and it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. There were lots of tears shed on Wednesday. But I hand fed her and we did the best we could to sooth her. She still wanted to go upstairs with us to go to bed.
Thursday we were back at the vet earlier than planned. By Thursday morning we were besides ourselves with worry. I stayed home from work and Mich canceled her appointments for the day. We got her in for an ultrasound apt and they also gave her fluids. The ultrasound doc came back to tell us that she was in great shape. Nothing wrong inside… but began to tell us in a lighthearted manner about her dog who had vestibular. She said she went through all the same scenarios that we are going through… because without ever hearing of vestibular we were sure she had a stroke. She sent us home with an antibiotic and an anti-vertigo pill as well and we learned how to give her fluids with needle and bag of saline.
Friday — I went to work – couldn’t get her to eat in the morning. She is still circling in the yard. Mich has been holding her head to help her drink, but she doesn’t drink much. Mich got her to eat all kinds of stuff yesterday and she seemed ravonous last night. Thank go the week was over and we all went up for bed and slept peacefully through the night.
This morning, I can’t say I see much difference… Mich is looking for positives and we are finding small things. Most cases we’ve read about say the dog is back to normal in 4 days… but sometimes it can be 2 weeks. Only a head tilt will remain. We are waiting this out, but have another visit on Tuesday.

I’ve not heard of vestibular before, but I’m so sorry Rosie is off and not her normal self. Ashley
