Memorable Memorial Day
This weekend was a dream. The kids had so much fun and so did we.
Saturday I got to see the new Star Trek movie. I loved it. I didn’t actually watch the first of the new series with the young cast, but now I really want to! The rest of Saturday was all about relaxing and enjoying our time together. Mich didn’t come to the movie with me, so it was nice to be back home again.
Sunday, we took the kids to the park. It was Rosie’s first time and she seemed to love running along the paths and going down into the water, seeing the geese, and chasing the butterflies. They were exhausted when we got home. This was good because we were heading to New York City for the afternoon. We had been looking at websites and news to see what was going on and thought about doing some window shopping and then staying for a late night girl party. What actually happened was a huge surprise!
It was such a beautiful day and we totally took our time getting there. The drive wasn’t bad and we found free parking about 20 blocks from Time Square. We strolled along and did some window shopping. I almost bought a purse from a street vendor, but he wouldn’t bring the price down low enough. We stopped at Rockefeller Center and looked at some shops there, and watched some street performers outside. We looked for places to eat along the way and actually stopped for an impromptu picnic in Bryant Park. We had loaded up with some snacks and just stopped for something to drink. It was so beautiful out and the park was full of people playing games that are available in the park. So, we watched some Ping-Pong while we snacked.
Once we got to Time Square it was later in the day and oh my god, the crowd was crazy. I can’t even imagine what it must be like there on New Year’s eve. Anyway, we made our way around the new bleachers they put in and we walking along Broadway in front of one of the theatres that was just crazy with people standing outside! Mich stopped me and told me we had to stay there for a while. I was like, “why, what’s going on?” And she said, “because we are here to see a show!” OMG, I was so surprised! Turns out she got us tickets to see Little Orphan Annie right there on Broadway! I was practically jumping up and down. We picked up our tickets and went inside to our seats which were only a few rows from the stage. The show was awesome. Jane Lynch was amazing and funny as always. The kids were just so adorable. And the dog was cute!
After the show, we started back to the car, still looking for shops and someplace to eat. We finally just settled on a diner around Madison Square Garden for some breakfast food. I wanted to go to a nicer place, but on the fly, it’s so hard to find!
We were out of the city by 11:45 and headed home. Around 12:10 or so, we both saw a shooting star fly across the sky! We were amazed because it was bigger and brighter than anything I’d ever seen. Mich actually thought it might be a firework because of how colorful it was. But, I looked it up and it turns out it’s a meteor called a “fireball” due to the size. So, we made a wish on the fireball. J
Monday the kids got to have fun again by going on a play date. We went over to a friend’s house who has a Golden and met another friend there with her Golden… so four Goldens makes for a lot of laughs and love. Rosie and Amos were exhausted by the end of the day.
I’m not sure if us being gone so late on Sunday and the kids being left alone has set Rosie back a step or two, but since Monday night she has been waking me up multiple times during the night, digging at the floor by the back door. She is so focused on what she’s doing that when I finally get down there to stop her, I actually scare her. Last night she did it at 12:30 and I went down and got her back on her bed and laid down and I think she then slept through the rest of the night. This was something she did when we first got her. I guess even five months is not really all that long. I’m hopeful that in a year, she’ll be beyond all of that. But it really has us re-evaluating our vacation plans for July. We aren’t sure about leaving them for over a week. So, we are trying to come up with other plans.
What a fun weekend! Maybe just the extra stimulation outside of Rosie’s routine set her off again. Poor girl! Did you LOVE Annie!?

It is interesting to me to see how much a change in a pets routine or surrounding can affect the pets behavior. #1 Son and his Wife-Unit are putting an addition on their home. There dog seems almost in a daze. 🙂 – – – –

Niiiiice. I haven’t seen the new new Trek, but i thought the old one from 2009 was a bit weak. It seems fast and exciting the first time, but when you see it again, there’s so many parts that stick in the craw. Like, Spock goes through his entire young life at Vulcan academy being harassed and shunned for being half-human, and then right on the eve of his graduating…. he hearsone more slight crack against his human heritage and says “whoa! Are u serious? U no liek human DNA?” and the old Vulcans are like, “yeh fool we been telling u dat for like your whole life” and Spock is like “ok, last straw, i’m outtie n*ggas peace!” It’s abrupt. Also… Kirk cheats on a test, and they literally assemble an audience of 1,000 members and every high-ranking officer, every Admiral and Captain in existence to fill a grand hall for his disciplinary hearing? My god. Whatever happened to the principal’s office? Also, you call that a green girl? Kirk starts making out with a green chick, as he is wont to do, and it’s just a girl covered in cheap green bodypaint. No scales, no tail, no weird cat-eyes, just a girl slathered in $5 green paint. It’s
