The First Day
Thanks to one of my favs for prompting me for an update LOL I know I have my priorities straight because I would rather come on OD and read my favs then go to Facebook and scroll through that nonsense.
My first day was pretty awesome. I got there right on time after driving an hour and 20 minutes in some pretty crap ass weather. I had to drive from my yoga class in New Jersey so that adds to the length of the drive. I’m going to try a different way on Friday because the way I went is a PITA. Anyway, typically, I’ll only be driving to work one day a week from the yoga class, so it shouldn’t be a big deal.
Everyone at the office is so nice and had smiles on their faces. I sat with my boss for 5.5 hours as he gave me details on every single project on the massive list he had emailed me. They weren’t sure if I would have my new computer or phone yesterday, but both came and so I came home fully connected and ready to work today. Of course, its my lunch break now so I get to slack off LOL
My boss said that they haven’t been this unprepared since he’s started working there. They don’t even have a cube for me yet. He said they ordered the unit so I guess until it gets there I have to sit in his office or my other boss’ office. I don’t really have an issue with that, I guess. I told him that it was ok, because at our last place of employment, they didn’t even have a computer for me for a week and so the office manager had me wrapping presents for her. He laughed. Its nice that we can joke about our old company together.
I was set to work until 6 yesterday, but we finished up and he told me to go home. No one really stays typical hours in that office. A lot of people were gone by 4. Its going to take some getting used to. I asked him if he was sure that the owners were cool with me having an ultra flex schedule and he said absolutely. As long as I get my work done, no one cares. I said "are you sure no one is going to be whispering about me working from home every Friday." He said absolutely and actually told me to try to arrange to work from home on Fridays esp in the summer because no one stays at the office all day in the summer. Sweet.
I actually got an iPhone for work, but the office manager gave me hers by accident, so I won’t get to play with it until tomorrow. That will be really nice to have because right now I feel like I’m teathered to my laptop so I can see when emails come in. My boss basically told me that I don’t have to sit around waiting for him to call or email. That if I get my work done, then I don’t have to be "working."
So, tomorrow will be my first full day at the office. This week I’m told to just get used to they way things are set up and to explore the file structure and just sorta ease into things. I really love this job already. 🙂
Working from home is kinda interesting though. Its nice to be here for the furkids and be able to just work in my yoga clothes and be ultra laid back and stuff, but the kids see me and think its time to play. And when Mich stopped in for her two hour break between work and school it was sorta hard to actually do anything because we were chatting… and walking the dogs and stuff. I’m sure we’ll fall into a grove once I get more work to do. I’m certainly not going to complain about working from home once the weather gets nicer!!!
This sounds like such an awesome job setup! Do you do anything specific on your commute? I like living close to work, but sometimes I miss my old commute b/c I listened to lots of podcasts and audio books.

I’m so glad you like your new job!… it really does sound perfect. Working from home takes getting used to I think. My boyfriend struggles a bit with it.. he works from home 100% of the time now.

Sounds great so far, that’s awesome! I work from home sometimes, and sometimes it’s great and I’m super productive and then there are times that I really need to be in an office environment to be productive. I guess it sort of depends on my mood or what exactly I’m working on at the time. Or…maybe I’m just weird! LOL

I’ve had the ‘work-from-home’ job in the past and you’re right…you just have to find a groove that fits. Sounds like it’s going to work out great for you though, and that’s awesome! I’m so glad to be back around here! I’ve missed you!….and I’m glad I gave you a laugh over my dream…lol…it was pretty funny. –

Hooray for good jobbage! Surprisingly, that cartoon was drawn by “Darleen Click,” who is apparently an older woman who works for the court system in California. It does look like something a dumb guy would come up with, but note the way rapey Obama says “all the consent i need Nov 2008.” That’s strangely abbreviated, some kinda hurried clerkspeak?
