Today is the end of a four day weekend for me and next weekend I will have another on account of Melbourne Cup Day. Woot!

Today is dad’s birthday. Yesterday we had him over for dinner to note the occasion. He seemed well. Claudia’s mum said to me that he seemed lost and lonely when they met briefly on her arrival a couple of weeks ago! I thought that a bizarre statement and assume that Claudia has spoken to Jeanne about dad rather than her expressing an opinion drawn from an assessment based on what he said to her.

The Saturday past we bought tickets for Claudia’s birthday to see a concert at the Myer Music Bowl but there was a downpour so we had dinner in the city instead. We tried Movida but it was full so we ended up at the Little Press and Cellar at the Press Club in Flinders Street. They serve pleasant Greek food so we ordered seafood. By the time we had finished the rain had cleared but we didn’t feel like sitting on the wet grass (even though we had a blanket) so we still didn’t go to the concert. Next time we never again buy advance tickets to the Bowl – we will just rock up on the night or just see a play at the arts centre. The next problem is that I expect that Claudia will still want a birthday dinner and present on the day, it is always a drawn out celebration. I have the dinky cd that I bought on the internet but that won’t suffice. I suppose we will end up buying perfume and going out on the town on the last Saturday before her birthday.

I painted on paper for a couple of days, mainly to get a birthday card done. The card looked alright in the end but not amazing. I would like to do more to get my hand back in. To get to the materials I had to dig around in boxes in the studio, which left me dusty and a bit sad. So many dead ideas there. I should do a radical throw out job. I found for instance the walking stick with a light in it that Jack gave me. I don’t know what I am meant to do with it.

Jenne’s mum friended me on Facebook this week.
