movies and stuff

Good day to all.  Let’s see, what’s been going on?  I’ve actually seen a fair amount of movies lately.  Usually I don’t get to see too many new movies. *shrugs*  The first new one I saw was “Van Helsing” some weeks back.  It was really good.  At first I wasn’t too excited about seeing it, mostly because the material they were working with has been done so many times.  It tends to get old because people follow basically the same theme.  But I was plesantly suprised with “Van Helsing.”  I really liked their take on Dracula, the Wolfman, just the entire movie.  I think Jackman is a good actor and so is Beckinsale.  There were also some comedic aspects to the movie which kept the action from becoming stale.  Overall, I’d recommend this movie.

I saw “Kill Bill” on video recently too.  It’s a really good movie, but it is Tarantino to a tee.  It’s very, very violent and very bloody.  They must have used gallons of fake blood for that movie, I’m not exaggerating either.  I think I already talked about seeing “The Last Samurai.”  I saw “The Day After Tomorrow” recently.  It was really good.  It did have some slow moments, but it was really good.

Then, this past weekend I saw “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”  I was greatly disappointed.  I had been concerned when they announced the director at the beginning.  It was Alfonso Cuaron, don’t know if anyone has heard of him.  He did that controversial spanish movie called “Y Tu Mama Tambien.”  Anyway, for Harry Potter…  The graphics were great, the acting, the scenery, all that was great.  The story line was horrible though.  They left out so much from the book and the movie had a shorter running time than the first movie.  But the third book is about twice as big as the first book.  It just doesn’t make sense.  If you hadn’t read the book, I think you’d have a hard time following the course of the story.  The next movie is set for 2005.  There’s been some talk about splitting up the movie into two parts.  If the next one is anything like this past one, splitting up the movie would be my vote.  Personally, I think that they should just reshoot the whole thing.  Maybe make it a special edition, with the longer running time, like they’ve done with the “Lord of the Rings” movies.

Anyway, this entry is long overdue.  I started working on it almost a week ago and now here I am finally finishing it.  Not really much missed though.  My class is going well, but that’s about all.  It doesn’t seem like this a good time for most people I know.  It’s not that great of a time for me either, but it’s not like it’s something new.  I’m used to the family crap by now.  I just wish I had enough money to be on my own.  I refuse to go out on my own and get into debt over my ears.  I will not be like my parents.  Even if little else in my own life pans out, that is one thing that I want to make sure of.  That I will be as little like my parents as possible.  Well, I’ve talked on long enough, here’s to the future.

That’s too bad about Harry Potter not being so good. Undoubtedly, it will still make a good box office just because of the fan following though it’s too bad that it was such a disappointment. Sorry things are going awry with your family again. I hope you’re doing well in spite of it all.

I too thought that Harry Potter was a huge let down! I enjoyed a few of those movies as well. Hope all is going well. Take care.
