Dimensional Reality: Oz (Chapter 12)

“Since you’ve only seen the first movie and haven’t read the book series…”

  “There’s a series?”

Joseph rolled his eyes again before continuing,

“The dimension of Oz is an expansive land.  It goes far beyond the kingdom of Oz.  But we do sit now within the borders of the kingdom of Oz.  We sit in the forests of the land of the Munchkins.  I’ll tell you of Oz as it used to be.  Here was ruled by the Munchkin king, Nunkie.  To the North was the land of the Gillikins, ruled by the Good Sorceress of the North, Melinda and her steward, Captain Fyter, otherwise known as the Tin Solider.  Off to the South was the land of the Quadlins, ruled by the Good Sorceress of the South, Glinda.  In the West was the land of the Winkies, ruled by the Emperor Nick Chopper, otherwise known as the Tin Woodsman.  Finally in the center of Oz was the Emerald City, ruled by by Ozma, Queen of Oz and last in the line of the royalty of the Land of Oz.  North of the Land of Oz was the land and kingdom of Ev, the next greatest kingdom and greatest ally of the Land of Oz.  West, beyond the Winkie country was the land of the Mountaineers, governed by the three Adepts of Magic, Audah, Aurah, and Aujah.  Finally, beyond the moutains that border the land of the Munchkins was the small kingdom of Jinxland.  All these places I have mentioned are important to this tale.  Most important to you is the Emerald City, where resided the High Princess of Oz…Dorothy of Kansas.  Your great-grandmother Dorothy.  She arrived here in the midst of a magical storm, her house carried by tornado.  She lived in the magical kingdom of Oz for a long time, enjoying the immortal land.  A land where no one ever aged, died, or got sick.  Yet, it was the magic of this land that caused her to leave.  Ozma had a great many magical items in her palace.  One of the most important was her Magic Picture.  It would show her anything she wished to see.  Dorothy grew fond of looking at this and seeing everything it would show her.  From time to time she would gaze at her native Earth, seeing the changes of the times.  It was during this time that she first saw Richard, your great-grandfather.  She fell in love with Richard, watching is life day by day.  Finally she decided to leave the realm of Oz, to return to Earth.  Even as Ozma wished her to stay, she would not deny Dorothy her happiness.  So Dorothy returned to Earth, met and married Richard and from her your grandmother was born, then to your mother, and now to you.  You are the twin image of your great-grandmother right before she left Oz.”

Dorothy was silent through all this.  She only knew that no one wanted to talk about her great-grandparents.  She had overheard many of her relatives refer to her great-grandmother as “crazy Dorothy”.  Now she had a pretty good idea of why.  Her great-grandmother came back to Earth, many years after she left it, looking exactly the same age.  She cleared her throat and looked at Joseph,

“What happened to Oz after she left?”

*ahem* Why is Joseph rolling his eyes at the girl’s lack of knowledge of the series? Seems to me, the author himself had to do some last-minute research on the subject. *smirks* You thought I’d forget, didn’t you? Silly man… Take care, a’chara, and be well.
