The Phantom’s Response

(Please read the previous entry first. Are ya done? Good.)

Dear Maestro…

So you think you know everything do you? Maybe I will indeed never stop liking Gretchen…But that does not necessarily mean that I can’t move on, y’know?

::Maestro cuts in::

Maestro: So what you are saying is that you plan to continue liking Gretchen, but hide your feelings whilst you go searching for other lasses? That is a conflict of interests…

Phantom: I didn’t say I would go searching for other lasses! Maybe I’ll just stay away from the thought of a relationship all together. It’s what Gretchen is doing…

Maestro: Well, I suppose you could just give up on trying to find a mate. Having friends is wonderful, don’t get me wrong. But it is bound to drive you mad if you never strive for anything more with anyone.

Phantom: Who says?

Maestro: Phantom, if you plan on not getting involved with anyone, including Gretchen, you cannot have feelings for anyone, such as Gretchen – You will always want more. Either you have to go for Gretchen, eliminate all feelings and go for someone new, or keep your feelings for Gretchen but never reveal them and wallow in your loneliness.

Phantom: Well that last one sounds rather depressing…

Maestro: My friend, that is about where you are right now. If you are still holding onto Gretchen, you can’t find someone new. You say you’ll just move on but you won’t. And since I know (and you know) you still have feelings for Gretchen, you really only have two choices. Choice 1: You face her and find out once and for all how she really feels. Now, obviously I wouldn’t suggest doing this right away – it is not exactly the time yet. But anyway, sooner than later you must do this. She will either give you a good answer or a bad one. Good answer being she likes you and wants to go further with you. Bad answer being…she doesn’t. But either way you will finally know once and for all what she wants and you will therefore have closure. If she wants to go further, you do so. If not, you know for sure that she isn’t interested and you can finally move one. Of course, you won’t likely be a happy camper for a while if that’s the case, but life goes on.

Phantom: AHG! Don’t talk like that! I don’t even want to think about it…

Maestro: Well, I myself am always the optimist, so I would hope that wouldn’t be the case…but like I said…it would still put your mind at ease, for you would know where everyone stands…closure, right?

Phantom: Indeed.

Maestro: But anyway, Choice 2: You don’t face her. But since you like her nonetheless, you will be unable to go for anyone else. You will be lonely and sad and this whole thing will consume you. You’ll never stop thinking about the potential she has…but you’ll never act on it either…so you will never move on.

Phantom: Choice 1 is far more appealing, it seems. But…do you realize what you are suggesting? The mystery! The danger! What if I go through with it and she never wants to be my friend again?!

Maestro: Mystery? Danger?! That’s what I’M here for! I am a hero, such things are daily practice for me. And as for that other comment, it is clear you just don’t know Gretchen as well as I do. She is FAR too nice a lass to stop being my friend on such a basis. Sure, things could be slightly awckward…but she would get back to normal in no time…and plus, you have to think POSITIVE! Be optimistic, like myself.

Phantom: Oh, so I have to do everything your way, huh?

Maestro: Quite you, it’s for your own bloody good! And besides, Why wouldn’t you do everything my way? You are essentially the same entity as me anyway!

Phantom: I guess you’re right…So, do you wanna take over from here? I mean, it sure seems like you know what you’re doing. You know what you want, which is more than can be said of myself…

Maestro: Well I’d love to…I was going to anyway, but thanks for being so polite about it. I hate to see you go, but I have to. You have overstayed your welcome, you know.

Phantom: I have?

Maestro: Yes. We all love the name…and what it is based on…but what you really are, the melodramatic ghost who cannot straighten out his emotions…is not what the public wants. It is not what they need.

Phantom: So what DOES the public need?

Maestro: A Hero.

So until I actually do save the world from arguments with myself…

before i comment on the hot topic at hand, i just want to mention to you that you really do have a talent with writing. but anywho… i must agree w/ maestro. first, when he said there are to many melodramatic people in the world who cant make up their mind. i can vouch for that, beiong one of those sorry souls myself. it is not much fun, being so pathetic and unhappy at once. with this in…

…mind, it seems obvious that you have only one thing to do..choice #1 as offered by maestro. there is indeed danger and adventure involved, but whats the point of living if you arent going to live big? hell, we could all die tommarow in a great explosion, and gretchen would never know how u felt! and what if it turns out she had feelings for you? what a waste of life and love. yes, she may…

..not return your adore, but how much worse off whould u be than now? of course shell still be your friend, if she has any heart, which she obviously must if you fell for her. dont be anther victim. be the hero you promise. and if all else fails, you can can write novels in you depressed state, which, in my opinion, turn out the best. good luck.

This entry was not quite finished when you read it, Mystery Noter… So, if you’d like, you can go back and read the small but necessary conclusion… – The Author, who is no longer

“The world needs a hero, tell them I’ll call them back.” Ah… who’re you really tryin’ to save, bub? The public or yourself? Ideally, you want to save the girl, but you gotta face facts… she’s doin’ fine with or without you. What you’re doin’, you gotta do for yourself. I reluctantly agree with the mystery noter, but I got a sinkin’ feeling you’re in a lose-lose situation.

The Phantom lied once. He said one thing and meant another. Who’s to say it will be any different with Maestro? –

The world needs a hero? I disagree. I think the world needs to stop playing the victom and save it’s self. My conclusion is based on decades of personal experience. “Hero” is one of the most powerful words that I know of. It’s also very easily misused. Maestro’s intentions are admirable, but self-proclaimed heros tend to do more harm than good. Both to themselves and to others.

Anyway, the sitation’s potentially…messy. However, as the wise Jester pointed out, ya gotta do it for yourself. And so, good luck to you. I hope that when the dust settles things turn out well for you.

hey….i decided to check my open diary notes….hahaa…hi:) have an awesome day:)

Have you ever read comic books? The heroes are always… Tormented. But why? Is it the need to always do good? Is it eternal pain from childhood? Is it mutant side effects from a spilled chemical? Or is it the pressure of leading a double life? You’ve found out what _we_ need. So, what do _you_ need? There’s always something that tears us apart. Don’t let it be this. There are bigger things.

Entertaining…although, if you’re anything like me, that wasn’t meant to entertain. It was a personal catharsis for you, I think, and those are most definitely necessary from time to time. The thing I’ve learned though is to make sure you’re not lying to yourself in that catharsis, as I have done. Good luck in continuing to try to understand life. *solemnly nods in general direction*
