Recap Part II

As for camp…the camp I’m at now has much better directors than my last camp. The kids still suck though. I had two kids leave for the summer…one stiffed me and the other gave me $20. Needless to say I’m not happy. This week will be the last week though and then that Saturday I’ll be driving up to Binghamton for my final year ::sniffle::

The volunteering has been going OK. The kids I had the first year I was there were definitely more…normal, I guess, for lack of a better word. Now the children on the unit are definitely sicker. One child is schizophrenic…he believes he derives God-like powers from the moon. Another child is a kleptomaniac and has the most violent temperament I’ve ever seen. One moment he can be sweetly saying hello to me and giving me a hug and the next he could be screaming and calling me a stupid bitch. I saw him carried away by three staff members and placed in the quiet room last week…It’s sad, knowing he’ll never really live a ‘normal’ life, even with medication.

The PA I was shadowing, Anna, was very helpful. She only made me go into the office twice and agreed to write me a letter of recommendation. Being with her only made me want to be a PA even more…

Other than that, the summer’s pretty ordinary and boring. I volunteer, work, sleep occaisonally, and talk to Mike on the phone. I miss being in school actually…
