Summer 2005 Recap

I need to backtrack a bit since I haven’t writeen in awhile. So Mike’s trip to Long Island at the end of July didn’t go exactly as planned….It really sucked actually. He ended up coming here around 8 pm, so we really lost a day of his visit. Then we had to get up early the next morning to catch the ferry to Bridgeport, Connecticut. We made it to the ferry on time,  but getting to Norwalk to see the aquarium sucked since I sort of got lost. Mike wasn’t giving very clear directions, and I haven’t ever been to Norwalk, so we ended up not speaking until we got to the aquarium. I was really pissed that he got so mad just because we ended up taking a fifteen minute detour…He made me go and sit by the little beach area by the aquarium until we were on speaking terms again. We got onto better terms and spent the day in the aquarium. We got back to the Connecticut ferry without trouble and the ferry ride back to Long Island was gorgeous…it was a clear night, the stars were out, and there was still a little light out…He held me while we watched the Connecticut landscape disappear…it was really romantic.

When we got home we started discussing our New York City trip that we had planned for the next day. For the second time that day we started bickering. I wanted to take cabs around the city, even if it cost more money, so we couldn’t get lost. Mike doesn’t know his way around the city at all and neither do I. Yet he continued to ask me questions about subway routes, which of course I didnt know the answer to. I was pissed that he persisted talking about taking subways and he was peeved because I didn’t know my way around. We got over it later that night, but it still ruined the end of the day for us.

The next morning we woke up early yet again…He had me go and get bagels for him to bring back to his family…which sucked because I really didn’t have the time to do that. He has no conception of time management, but if I refused to get his bagels, it would’ve pissed him off. Anyway, we barely made our train. We decidded to not buy our train tickets at the ticket machine outside (which would be cheaper) because we got onto the train moments before its scheduled departure. Instead we figured we’d pay an extra dollar or two to buy them on the train just to ensure we didn’t miss the train. Well…the tickets cost eight dollars extra (each) and the train ended up leaving late, so technically we could’ve bought them at the ticket machine…that started off our morning. Then, once we made our transfer, the conductor announced that no trains west of Jamaica were running due to ‘police action’ in Penn Station…which meant we’d have to take the subway. I needed to use the bathroom once we got to Jamaica, but Mike was in such a hurry to find the subway we needed, I had to put it off. Making a long story short, we got lost in a subway station, and had to take two different subways just to get to Penn Station. So not only were we an hour an a half late to NYC, but my bladder was now bursting…since Mike could God forbid stop and let me use the bathroom…my pleas to find one fell on deaf ears.

His friend Adam and his girlfriend were nice enough, but I was in a shitty mood by this point…I’m covered in sweat since the subway stations were close to 100 degrees in the summer heat and I was once again peeved at Mike. We came close to missing the train back to Long Island, since Mike refused to take a cab to Penn Station and the subway had let us off a block and a half from the station…we didn’t know which way to go from the subway and had to ask for directions. Mike was strolling down the street, even though we had minutes to catch the train…I was jogging and he was yelling at me to wait (hurry up then, you dick). We weren’t speaking when we got onto the train…or by the time we got to Long Island…or at dinner. Actually we didn’t speak til close to 11 pm that night. We got over it much later that night, but the weekend was pretty much ruined. I was really depressed since I really look forward to his visits, and this time it felt like all we did was fight.
