Damn Fine Coffee
I’m thankful for the music that I feel really “gets me.” I think you know what I mean, those songs that when you hear the first three notes, before it really gets going, your reflexive reaction is, “YEAH, that’s my jam!” or the way cooler equivalent.
I’m thankful to be inspired and ignited by these sounds, that there’s something so energetically compelling about music, my body wants to move. I’m thankful for the lyrics of songs that help me express what I’m feeling in a more poetic and shared way. I’m thankful for the songs without words that can express emotional depth without language getting in the way.
This specific song that I’m sharing is one that always makes me smile. It reminds me of being on Long Island. I was lucky enough for a time to have a job that required me to drive on a bay side road to the two ferries I had to cross in order to get there. The sound of this music always seems to take me there.
In the middle of the song there’s a clip of Kyle MacLachlan saying a quote from Twin Peaks, which I’m also thankful for. I’m thankful that music and movies can remind me how to be a better person and how to make life more enjoyable. So, in case you don’t listen, here it is,
“Harry, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Everyday, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it, don’t wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the Men’s store. A catnap in your office chair. Or two cups of good, hot black coffee. Like this.”
