Gisele Hospitalized with Covid 19
Diane and her mom, Gisele are pictured above at the outhouse this summer
A few days ago I received a call from our nephew, Bill. He was trying to reach Gisele (his grandmother). She would not answer the phone. I told him that Gisele was sick in bed. Diane spoke with her two days prior. I told him he should go knock on the door and contact the office if she doesn’t respond. (Bill lives in the area and we are 4 hours away).
Gisele did not answer the door so he went to the office at the complex. They called the paramedics and accompanied Bill to her door. She then answered but was a bit out of it. She had not eaten anything of consequence for a week. The paramedics checked her out and recommended she go to the hospital to be checked out. She relented but stated that she “didn’t want to get Covid”. He assured her that she would not.
She was admitted after testing positive for Covid and put on a modest level of oxygen, 1.5 liters. This was done because here oxygen level would drop whenever she went for a walk. Yesterday they had to increase her O2 level to 3.0 liters. She continued to show no appetite. Today I received a call from the doctor who wanted us to know that they had to increase here O2 level to 6.0 liters. He stated “that is not a good trend”. He did not want to cause alarm but needed us to be aware.
Diane is not doing great healthwise and the added stress of this situation is not helping. Her nephew, Bill, who is the closest relative (Gisele’s grandson) does not handle stress very well. He freaked out to the news that she was on Remdesivir and Dexamethasone saying that drugs were bad, she didn’t want any, etc. He then started blaming Diane and I for not making the drive to be in the area even though in-person visits are not allowed. I ended up hanging up on him.
Stress causes a lot of problems!
An hour ago I received another call from the hospital this time from the case manager. They are recommending that Gisele go to rehab upon release from the hospital. They want to talk with Diane directly so she’ll call them tomorrow.
Namaste
I’m sorry to hear Gisele. 🙁
Warning Comment
The medications she is on, saved my niece’s life shortly before Christmas. I hope she can recover fully and soon.
