Hot Skunks

Umm…  So we did some hiking this weekend…

It was hot.

Oh and Sunday we went up to Rochester to give blood.  I had it in my calendar which means I checked when we were eligible.  I had Saturday.  We went Sunday.  They said we weren’t eligible till Monday.  Bah…  Oh well.  So we headed to Breakfast at Cracker Barrel and by the time we got out at like 10am or so it was already over 80F and we didn’t want to leave Shadow in the car by herself for more than a moment anyway.  We went looking for a park.  Found one.  But there were people directing traffic…  Apparently we weren’t allowed because there was a gay parade in the works…  ok…

Went looking for another park.

Found one.  It was also in some sort of event mode.  I think Sara said it was something to do with ribs.

Oh and I was also initially looking for a place near the airport as the air show was on and I thought that would be cool to see the blue angels and what not flying around.  Well, they weren’t flying around when we were there.

So Sara said to head up to the great lake and look for a beach.  I picked a park up there, and we drove past some stuff, but nothing that really looked like what Sara was looking for.  So we just kept heading west along the lake.  Came to a likely beach at a state park, but it would have been $7 to get in and I question that Shadow would be allowed on the beach given past experiences.  So on we went and then we decided to just head on back home via the scenic route.

We stopped and got some ice cream.

I think that was mostly it till we got about home and picked up some pizza and subs for dinner for the next couple days.

By this time it was about 4pm and the same 90F it had been all day.  Mom called and said they were going to have pizza, but I declined as it was just too dang hot and they weren’t going to be eating till close to 8 which is about when I was planning on going to bed.

I think it got down to about 78F in the house that night.

Know how I was complaining about the rain for 2 months this spring?  Well now we haven’t had ANY rain for a couple months…  Well..  There might have been a sprinkle somewhere, but I really can’t remember the last time it rained…  They keep having these 20-40% chances a couple times a week, like yesterday morning.  It got really dark and the air changed…  But no rain…  And then back to sun and 90F.

The forecast right now is insane…  yesterday was supposed to be a high of 83F.  It was 92F.  Today says 88F…  it’s currently 84 at just past 11am.  Tomorrow?  92F.  Thursday?  97F…

No, wait… I just looked at the weather channell…  5 day is this: Today: 89F, then 93, 99, 94, 90.  There’s a chance it’ll get below 70F at night.  Wow.  Now I know some of you are used to these high temps, but this is just WAY too warm for me and way too warm for upstate NY!  I can only imagine the fun the bike ride back up the hill will be with temps of 100F+!  I might even take a bit of water with me!

And with these temps in sight I’ve been playing with our AC  a bit more.  See we have one back room that has an AC unit.  Due to our house layout and window types it’s the only feasible place until we get the whole house AC.  Nicely enough it connects to our bedroom.  Unfortunately we also have a bi-fold slat door that does not hold air at all.  But it seemed to work semi-decently last night if I got the back room down to about 70F, then let it flow into the bedroom with the fan cranked.  Not that it ever got the bedroom below 71F even with the AC cranked to 11.(Really).  But it felt better than other parts of the house.  I hope it will manage this week.  If not, I think I will sleep on the couch or floor in the back room.  I am not going to sleep well in 85F+ rooms at night…

Oh, the skunk?  Yeah, I drove the bug over this morning.  You know, just a tube frame vehicle, pretty much open to the outside.  It was about 5:30am and fairly dark, especially when I headed down the road into the woods.  I saw something on the side of the road and then head onto/down the road.  Then I realized I was pretty sure it was a skunk.  Thought:"Hmm…  I should probably really try not to offend that guy.  I have about zero protection from getting sprayed."  Of course he decided he just wanted to wander down the road a good ways before getting off again.  We patiently followed a long at a slight distance and then went on past, thankfully uneventfully!  (:

Those temps are rough without central air. Hope you stay cool. If it makes you feel any better, I *wish* it would only get up to 92 here during the day…

Good grief, it is hotter there than it is here!

We’re having the same heat here, it’s AWFUL! Supposed to be 99 here Thursday…. Glad you didn’t get sprayed =)

Gosh I haven’t seen a skunk in ages which is probably a good thing as I don’t need to be washing the dogs anytime soon. Sounds like the bug is really coming along.

RYN: Don’t feel too sorry for me. I have central A/C. All that happens is that I’m bored inside all the time. But you, you’re out braving the weather AND the wildlife!

The rain has been torrential here today – so bad that the roof at work was leaking badly in several places. Mind you, I think I’ll keep this in preference to your hot weather. 🙂
