Shower day. Or bath.
So Sunday.
Got up, cleaned up. Actually everyone was up by around 7 I think. Sister’s hubby-to-be slept in a bit later. Apparently he’s not used to the enjoyment of not having sister’s cat meow into his face at 4:30am and was enjoying sleeping in a bit.
So we headed down and across the street to the beach where it was QUITE foggy and the waves were pretty good sized. Sister and Mom stayed up on the wooden walkway over the berm while Sara, Shadow and I waded into the waves a bit. Sara wants Shadow to get used to the ocean, but I see no evidence of that being likely to happen. She is fine with wading through water. She doesn’t have much experience with swimming in still water, so that’s a bit iffy, but the ocean she definitely does not like. Sara drags her in and she is constantly trying to go up the beach, especially when the waves were as high as her chin hitting her. The water up in northern Mass was a good bit chilly. Maybe 60F… I just waded in a bit, but my feet were frozen feeling for a few minutes. Though, had I been better equipped I would have headed on in for a bit. But as it was, I was cleaned up and with few spare clothes, let alone that I was wearing the outfit I was planning on wearing to the shower, so I was trying not to get too sandy, wet or otherwise dis-shoveled. After a bit Sister and Mom headed back to the house while Sara continued to drag Shadow into the ocean, I walked along on the beach and occasionally Shadow would escape and run to me hoping I could protect her.
Then we headed back to the house, Sister and hubby2be had left to go back to their apartment and get ready for the shower. Sara & Mom finished getting ready, then we just hung out a bit.
Then it was off to the shower. Let me just say how much I enjoy GPS’. I get used to it and forget, but a trip like this is a bit of a reminder. I just put in the stops we’re making ahead of time, so then when we’re out on the trip, we get in the car, I just select the destination and bam we’re off to some crazy place near Boston, and it seems like any time we went anywhere it was 20-50 miles at a pop. Anyway, we seemed to be off a street, but there was a big sign for the place we were looking for and we pulled in. Sure enough we were parked on the back side, but not biggie.
Shower wasn’t too bad really. It was kinda like an upgraded family reunion or something… A fairly fancy shmancy function facility. I was glad to see that hubby2be was in shorts as well, or I would have felt more under-dressed than I already did, though I wasn’t too worried really. At least in comparison to previous experiences I’ve had. I think I’m getting more used to just being me a bit more, even if it’s not what everyone’s looking for(including me). But it seemed like all the girls were dressed up to a good bit more than what I would consider casual. I guess I don’t consider business suit looking things as casual… Anyway, we got in, I stood around a bit, and most of the first part was being introduced to a few new family members, and then hubby2be’s Mom basically grabbed Mom, Myself & Sara and dragged us to each table where it was This is person 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and this is Mom, Me and his wife Sara. We did that about 8-10 times and pretty well made the rounds. Well, actually, I think she stopped short of one table which is the one sister took us to that were her friends from work. I believe the total came to 56 people. I guess that’s just how hubby2be’s family does things. Cause even hubby2be and his sister freely say they don’t know half the people there that are all their family. Which I understand, because I’ve been to plenty of family reunions just the same. People look familiar, but I just don’t see them that often and there are lots of them. Anyway, I think I picked up a name and face for sister’s friend that she doesn’t work with(he, I heard her say to sister that she thought it was just going to be like a shower at someone’s house. And I guess she didn’t know anyone but sister. That might be a bit more than expected.) (:, and there was a 4th guy I wasn’t expecting, which may more or less be hubby2be’s uncle… And his wife, and maybe one other member that I might remember. a few months? We’ll see… If only they would wear the same dresses… (: Oh and then there’ll be another hundred of them as well…
Anyway… After maybe half an hour of standing, greeting, etc, they started bringing out food, which was when it seemed the 4 of us guys could go to our "man room"(my name), which at first they were telling me was the coatroom… I was like "no… seriously?" And they were serious. They didn’t think it would be that bad. I guess not, but it was just a large closet… Luckily a minute later, someone came by and told us we were over in the other ballroom. So we had a huge room to ourselves. So we ate, they chatted, I occasionally had something to say and that was about it. They talked of seafood, sports, and family mostly. Some cards, though I know almost nothing when it comes to cards. But it wasn’t bad at all. And few hours later, we headed out and helped load up a CR-V or 2 with gifts.
Then Sister, Mom, Sara, Shadow, hubby2be, and H2B’s Mom & sister all came over to sis & H2B’s new apartment, saw the apartment and made a few trips up with gifts.
Then sister was putting away gifts and we hung out for a bit.
Then around 6 we headed out to Chunkys. That is a cool place that I have had the idea for a long time. Eat while you watch a movie. Better yet, all of the chairs in the theatre are from limos and on wheels, so you basically have a big easy chair that reclines and can move around, either to eat at the table to watch the movie or whatever. you can order/eat ahead of time or during the movie, and you have a little remote if you wish to summon a waitress to order something else at any time. and it wasn’t really too distracting during the movie. I did miss a couple short bits while ordering or paying or trying not to spill a quesadilla over myself, but it was still quite enjoyable. And I did end up getting the Hagrid Monster cupcake which was an oversized chocolate cupcake with chocolate mousse filling. Definitely good. not as good as it should have been, but still good. We saw Karate Kid. WAY better than I was expecting. I thought it was just gonna be a cheap copy. It was actually very good with a lot of differences, but a good few styles from the original. So I would recommend that if you’re looking for a good movie.
After that we said our goodbyes and Mom, Sara, Shadow and I headed back up to the beach house and went to bed.
Hmm… sounds a bit Big Fat Greek Wedding-esque… crazy, but not so bad after all. Good! I have a small grudge against the new Karate Kid movie because Will Smith cast his own son in the lead role, but I’m glad they at least made a good movie.
