Overthinker? Overemotioner…

Yeah, nothing huge, but it’s stuff that bugs me, so I’m just gonna put it here cause I feel like it.

2 Things: Toyota-More importantly Government/Politics, and Family (also related to cars in this case…)

1)So the Government stuff…  Let me just say that my feeling from Toyota is that they are a good company and they make good products.  I haven’t heard any reason to think otherwise.  If you think there’s a company out there that doesn’t have any issues with their cars or recalls, have I got news for you…  So it’s just really odd as to why suddenly Toyota’s getting called into the news all of a sudden…  Recalls happen every day with every company…

Anyway, I was listening to the NoAgenda podcast and they actually played some of the congressional hearings and it just really bothers me…  I believe it is a congresswoman speaking and she really just seems to be a bitch who is looking for any reason she can to be pissed at Toyota and it makes me feel like the people who were more familiar with WWII and think of the "Japs" as the enemy still…  And the Toyota exec seems quite nice and respectful and she’s just horrible to him…  She said that she drives a Camry hybrid because she wanted a hybrid and American’s weren’t making them so she went with that, she didn’t even ask how much it cost.  (Umm, to me that sounds like she’s just telling us how much of an idiot she is since she’s obviously not bothering to actually know what she’s talking about other than the fact that she thinks that "hybrid" means "I’m making a political statement" which does not necessarily have any connection…)

So she asks the exec if there is any chance at all that her car could be recalled for anything ever.  WHAT?!  Yeah, you don’t have any agenda…  Why not ask if there’s a chance it could be raining outside…  What a moron.  So the Toyota Exec starts by (politely) responding that she is in fact driving an American car, since her Camry is made in America, and she interrupts him and immediately lights into him saying "Well, your name is on the car!"  "Are you trying to disown this car?!"  "So you’re trying to blame the Americans for this?!"

Wow…  I can not express how much I HATE that sort of idiocy which is why I should know better than pay any attention to politics…

And #2)  Uncle invited me to head up to a car show this weekend which I think I shall go with, but it might be difficult for Dad to go as well, due to time between milkings(as is always the case, we can never get both of them for very long…  Those cows just don’t like to hold it or take a day off)   Which makes me feel kinda bad because I’ve gone with Dad and Brother before, but the last time or two I said I wasn’t that interested.  Now I feel like I’m saying yes to uncle/cousin when I should be asking Dad…  I just don’t want him to feel like I’m choosing to go with Uncle instead of him.  I will see if I can talk to Dad in some sort and see what he thinks in regards to being able to go or what not.  Maybe we can take two cars and stagger times a bit or something…

As I say, this is the usual.  As much as I will miss the farm whenever whatever happens with that, it would be nice to be able to have Dad and Uncle both available for more than a 3 or 4hr period…  Though actually thinking about it now, I suppose it’s possible the farm will be around until Dad’s in bad shape so maybe he won’t be doing much then anyway…  Who knows…

Anyway, we shall see what we shall see!

I really want to smack that congresswoman. Sounds like she just wanted to be pissy with someone, not to get to the bottom of the story. Farming seems like a rewarding life, in many ways, but yeah – it would be difficult not to be able to leave, ever. Hope you can go to the car show without upsetting anyone!

From what I understand, Toyota is in so much trouble because they knew there were problems – and were intentionally putting out an inferior product – NOT just because of recall…but I don’t know that for a fact.

I hate politics.

From what I understand something like 70-80% of all toyotas produced are still on the road today. That’s an amazing statistic, especially if you compare it to other automakers. That is funny what the exec said about the Camry though. People get all bent out of shape about BUY AMERICAN. Where do they think the majority of the parts to make that “American” car come from? Overseas. And thenyou’ve got manufacturers like Toyota and Subaru that are Japanese companies that assemble their cars in the US. The line between foreign and american cars is no longer as clear as it used to be. People need to get over themselves, fix what is broken and work towards giving the consumer a superior, safe, affordable product. That is what the bottom line should be.

Sounds like that congresswoman had no idea why she was talking or what she was supposed to be doing at the hearing.
