why we do the things we do

hey there boys, girls, and those with a little of both. (gods, i missed saying that) upon reading some of my recent posts, i’ve realized that im preaching quite a bit. upon further contemplation, i think i like my little schpeels. i like the thought of putting my albeit idealistic ideas out for the public (i.e. the five people who read this thing.) this led me to thinking, why do i do the other things that i do? (a cookie to whoever can comprehend that sentence) why do i play football? why do i write poetry? why am i a massive anime geek? why do i love biology? well, i play football because i love the burning and bruising sensation, the sense of accomplishment of breaking the hole for the big play. i love to play football, it’s a fufilment of years of watching the packers (when they were good) and seeing the big kids practice after school. i write poetry because i think it’s one of the purest ways to use a language. it can convey an emotion to any degree. im not sure why i like anime, it’s just a guikty pleasure i suppose. i love biology because in the back of my mind, ive always remembered a greek idea from a 6th grade report that the body is the house of the mind, and to be truely great one must perfect both. that and i’ve always wondered how people work…creepy.

my question is why other people do what they do. why do people make fun of others? why do people stand up for others? why do we do what we do? take a deep look and ask yourself why you do the most important things you do. why do skaters skate? why do stoners smoke? leave a note if you feel like itl, saying why you do what you like to do.

one more thing about me, why i wear black. i think johnny cash can say it best, so for the first time in a long time, lets get on to the music!!!!!

man in black

by: johnny cash

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,

Why you never see bright colors on my back,

And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.

Well, there’s a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,

Livin’ in the hopeless, hungry side of town,

I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,

But is there because he’s a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,

Or listened to the words that Jesus said,

About the road to happiness through love and charity,

Why, you’d think He’s talking straight to you and me.

Well, we’re doin’ mighty fine, I do suppose,

In our streak of lightnin’ cars and fancy clothes,

But just so we’re reminded of the ones who are held back,

Up front there ought ‘a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,

For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,

I wear the black in mournin’ for the lives that could have been,

Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,

Believen’ that the Lord was on their side,

I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,

Believen’ that we all were on their side.

Well, there’s things that never will be right I know,

And things need changin’ everywhere you go,

But ’til we start to make a move to make a few things right,

You’ll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I’d love to wear a rainbow every day,

And tell the world that everything’s OK,

But I’ll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,

‘Till things are brighter, I’m the Man In Black.

Of all the reasons I’ve heard for wearing black, that is honestly the best. Thank you. Now for your question. I help others because I can’t help myself. I write because I don’t want to scream. I sing because I don’t want to cry. I smile to make others happy. I talk because silence is deafening. And most of all, I love because no one else around me does. And I’m glad you agree with Marianne.

Johnny Cash is an amazing man. I love him a lot. I’m not sure why I do some of the things I do. Certain things I have a love for, like guard, but then there are other things that I think happen out of a lack of self control. <3
