It was a pretty quiet day in the coffee shop. We are in our slow season, so we only get the regulars. It is really nice until you realize that we need to sell more coffee.

One of our regulars, a Vietnam veteran, is not looking too good. He was always thin and rangy, but now he’s skeletal. His dad died almost two years ago, and it hit him really hard. They were close. I don’t think he will see the end of 2012.

The city took down the Christmas decorations yesterday. I miss them already – not so much because they are Christmas-y and related to the holiday, but because they are beautiful. What is so wrong about having beautiful colored lights up all year around? Would we start taking them for granted and not appreciate them anymore? I don’t think so. I see the beautiful mountains every day and still appreciate them. I plan to build a patio roof this summer and I will hang colored lights out there all year around.

Thursday night is usually the abandoned spouses club’s night for pizza and beer, but our pizzeria is closed for the holidays. Last week we went to a Mexican restaurant, which was OK. Tonight we went for Chinese. It’s not that we can’t eat out other places, and we do. But, Thursday is pizza and beer and it’s not the same. We are a weird group of damaged people. I am looking forward to the pizzeria opening again. My fortune did read that joy would return to my life, so I’ve got that going for me.

I understand why it’s not the same. I’m sure the normalcy and familiarity of having a routine to meet with the group is important to dealing, and recovering. I would think the coffee business would be better in winter. I know I look forward to a steaming, aromatic cup when I’m cold. May Joy find you, and if not then go looking for that sucker! 🙂

RYN: I never heard of REM. 100 proof?? Well, at least you didn’t care whether you were sick or not!

The ‘abandoned spouses club’ sounds like a great idea. I wish I had been involved in a support group when I was going through all my stuff … most people can’t relate.
