It’s funny; my diary hasn’t changed in all this time. I feel like the adult child running home to my parents’ house after life has kicked the crap out of me. I could start a new blog – I’ve had a couple in the interim, but, if I’m going to be honest with myself, coming back here is kind of a test. My husband says our 23 year marriage is over. He’s been gone about nine months, and he’s taken up with a young lady. I have a lot of thoughts about that right now, but I think I’ll keep them to myself. I guess I’m hiding in plain sight. I intend to speak plainly here, and if he ever cares enough to want to know what I’m thinking he might come here. I could redecorate, update the place a bit, but I kind of like the familiar feel of the place. I think I’ll hang here among the relics of my past for awhile.

I had a busy day – very productive. The owner of the coffee shop I manage is out of town, so I had to do my job and his, which isn’t really that much, but there is a lot of driving around for supplies involved. It is not the most exciting job in the world, but it is fun enough and pays my bills.

I also blew more insulation into the attic. I had been saving for it for several months. I figure any extra money I have should go back into the house. This will make the place more energy efficient and also bring it into line with new regulations. If we do end up having to sell the place, it will be one less thing I have to fix at the last minute.

The episode of Restaurant Impossible where they came to our town played on the Food Network tonight. I think they were actually very sensitive in the way they handled the entire situation and much kinder to the owner than they were in previous episodes because of her situation. However, they came in October and the restaurant doesn’t seem to be doing that much better. It is often empty. I was hoping to see takeout from our coffee shop in some of the shots, because many in the crew ate from our place. But, the editors were very careful. Too bad.

OK, enough for one day. I’ve got plenty of time to fill these pages.

Welcome home, indeed. I’m sorry to hear that life has been less than pleasant for you in the time since you last came “home”, I hope the year ahead treats you well, Merry. RYN: IHOP and Waffle House seem to bring in a completely different clientele on Christmas Day. IHOP seems to be primarily families gathering for breakfast before going home and going about the Christmas Day festivities. Waffle House seems to bring together people who really have no one else to spend Christmas with. It reminds me of one of the old truck stop diners at 2am, back before there were other options for people whose work or life circumstances had them on the road and far from home at such a time and place. I can identify. Good luck, and best wishes.

Yes! Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your situation. This is the perfect place to visit to work things through …
