the skinney

I woke up this morning and it was STILL raining.

Apair of wrens built their nest over the local ATM. Six needy baby birds are now poking their hungry mouths out and noisily demending food. They are so ugly – they are cute.

The cat went to the vet yesterday (not by himself of course). He’s 16 lbs, not fat, just big. He’s still healthy, but he needed shots. In 2 weeks he has to go back and get microchipped; it’s the law. He really hates to go to the vet, the groomer, the kennel, pretty much anywhere. Every time we go, we are told not to come back. He was blacklisted from practically every groomer in the DC area.

The young lady who found my daughter’s wallet came over for dinner Sunday night. It was a little awkward at first as I don’t speak much Japanese (beyond pleasantries) and she didn’t speak much English. It was interesting, though, and I found out we are in the same course of study – International Relations. We also discussed the rainy season. I mentioned that many Americans become depressed when they don’t see the sun for long periods of time (which explains the odd behavior in my office) – like in Seattle. I was assured that the endless grey drizzle, punctuated by the occassional typhoon, does not depress the Japanese. I don’t know how I can tell if someone is depressed; they never how their true feelings. Anyway, I was told that I need to pause and learn to appreciate the beauty of the rain.

I hope you have a great day 🙂
