getting the brag on

I am going to take the opportunity to brag openly and shamelessly about my daughter. Yesterday was the crossing the line ceremony at school, when the kids cross the line from middle to high school. It was also the ceremony where they gave out the awards for the school year. My daughter received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence (only 10 out of 250 students at the middle school received this award); she also received the drama award.

My daughter is a grade ahead, so she is one year younger (in some cases two) than her classmates. I was never concerned about her academically (she could read at three and is a very deep thinker); I did always worry about her socially – would she be mature enough to interact with the older kids? Apparently so, in spite of the age difference, she has a lot of friends and participates in so many after school activities – chess club, tech club, drama club, religious education; she edits the youth services newsletter and maintains the website. There are several boys who are interested in her, but I do not approve of the age difference.

In spite of her already being a grade ahead, she will be taking several 10th grade classes next year as a 9th grader – geometry, honors English and Japanese 2.

My daughter loves to be the center of attention. She wears the most outlandish outfits.

She talks non-stop. She loves alternative music and can play two Green Day songs on the guitar. She is fearless and a roller coaster junkie who plans to spend as much of her summer as possible at Japan’s amazing theme parks.

My daughter doesn’t drink soda. She doesn’t like people who smoke or who are closed minded.

I am so very proud of her.

This whole note thing is starting to bother me – Dreams Came True, I am happy to hear you didn’t get the pigpen award. Wayward, the one where she is sleeping is my favorite. Saffron, those were some dreams!
