Recapturing our Childhood

Why do we spend so much money trying to recapture our childhood? I have spent more then $75 buying an old NES and the games just to try to recapture the Good Ole Days…the days when all I had to worry about was what I should wear in the morning. The days when I spent countless hours playing Barbies with my next door neighbor. The days when I could take a two hour bike ride and my ass wouldn’t hurt when I was done. I grew up in a household where we didn’t have much money…and yet what made me most happy were the things that costed very little. What happened to that?

I remember when I would get so happy over something that came out of a dime machine at the grocery store. They don’t even have dime machines anymore. But the happiest momments were always the ones when I spent time with my mom. As a child I looked up to her…I idolized her. We would spend hours playing Super Mario Brothers 3…I miss those times. Today I play the game as someone who is looking back, someone who remembers what it’s like to be happy with those sweet little things.

Do you remember the little flintstone quarter machines…you’d get a little dino egg with a prize inside. “yabba dabba doo dinos got a surpise for you” It went something like that. I wanna be 5 again. I would’ve sold you my NES, with tetris, duck hunt, and ALL the mario games for a mere 40$, 75’s asking a bit much…

Oh, I SO hear you on this. I’ve got a PS2 and spend too much time whacking away at a baseball, shooting a hockey puck or tossing TDs, usually. But yeah, I miss the dime machines and even, dare I say it – the PENNY gumball machines they used to have in the bank my Mom would go to just before we had to go food shopping. I know I’m like 10 years older – LOL. And those bike rides? Shoot, I’d be out ALL DAY on my bike. Now? I’ve moved TWICE since the last time I’ve ridden the bike I own. *sigh* Enjoy your NES! 🙂

Ahh to be younger. We had a Sega Genesis when I was younger. Its cool to be cleaning and find things like old computer games on disk. The big black floppy diskettes. Man thats like dating me.

Looking back is a good thing to do as long as it does not prevent you from looking forward as well.
