Insanity!
No, I’m not doing the Insanity Program. A couple of weeks ago, Sam’s friend Fred convinced him that the Insanity Program would be an awesome thing to do together. Get some Man Time in. Get all sweaty. Die on the living room floor six days out of the week. Sam was totally on board with it. However much I tried to dissuade him, he was still convinced that he could do it.
I let him try.
(If you don’t know what Insanity is, you can click this link. Fred summed it up as the workout that makes you want to kill yourself. But you can’t. Because you’re to tired and laying in a pool of your own sweat to actually do anything that could cause real harm to yourself.)
The first day is Day 0: The Fit Test.
I watched him do this test. And the test itself didn’t look too difficult. I knew Sam wasn’t going to get every far with it because I haven’t see Sam exercise at all in the past two years. (The whole reason why he wanted to do this workout was because he felt he was putting on weight.) And, I’m sorry- but I told him Insanity was not the first thing that he should be doing. No one should be going from absolutely nothing to Insanity.
He got four exercises in on the FIt Test and felt like he was going to throw up.
Since I watched him to do the Fit Test, I knew what to expect for the most part. And I wanted to try it. Just to see if I could do it. And while I did do better than Sam did, I also did not finish. I did like the exercises though. And I’m thinking about incorporating them into my weekly workout. Its all stuff that I can do at home, without having to go to the gym. The program itself is not anything that I’m interested in. The Fit Test itself was really, really intense. And I can’t say that a whole program that is most likely 10x more difficult than the test – will be in any way suited for me.
But I accomplished doing:
20 Jumping Jacks (This was part of the warm up, and was less than a minute. I think it was about 30 seconds. But I like Jumping Jacks, so I’m including it in my accomplishments.)
79 Switch Kicks
30 Power Jacks
65 Power Knees
24 Power Jumps
5 Globe Jumps
5 Suicides
I didn’t get to the Push Up Jacks or the Low Plank Obliques. But I think I did rather well, considering the exercises. They give you one minute for each exercise, and in each minute you have to do as many reps as possible. And while one minute of exercise doesn’t seem like much, my body is screaming at me. I’m glad I stopped when I did, though. I know my limits.

In other news, I have FINALLY finished reading Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. Finished Book 7 yesterday. I’ve been reading this series since I was in high school. My lack of time for reading is one factor for why I’ve taken so long to finish the series. The other factor is that book four is really freaking boring. (Personal Opinion.) I really struggled with Wizard and Glass and kept putting it down. I re-started the entire series I think a year and a half ago, at Sam’s suggestion. The last three books I’ve read and finished in the past six months.
So. The ending. I don’t know if I love it, or if I hate it. It is definitely tragic on Roland’s part. And I am not thrilled with the epilogue. But it was definitely an interesting ending. And while I am sad to see the series end, and the characters stories end, I think Stephen King was right when he said that ‘although it is not the best ending, it was the only endind there could have been.’ (Paraphrasing.) And it definitely did blow my mind.
Now I have to read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. It is on loan to us from Sam’s boss. Sam has already finished it. I wanted to finish The Dark Tower first. And as I’ve been finishing the DT books, Sam has been lending them to his boss. Little bit of a book exchange going.
Michelle is coming over for dinner tonight and I’m making stuffed chicken. I’m going to pound some chicken breast real thin and stuff them with sun-dried tomatoes, red peppers, spinach, and cheese. Creamy mashed potatoes and green beans sauteed with garlic on the side. Oh. And watching the BBCs Sherlock. That, too.
I love my days off. Now for a quick shower (that work-out was crrrrazay!) and a trip to the store for dinner things!
ALW
I wanna come to YOUR house for dinner tonight. And I miss Knit Night 🙁 Love,
