Ghostly Voice in Active Dreaming

I had a smartphone in my hand – I paused for a while looking at the device – it was familiar but foreign. I don’t own one, but here I had my own phone in my hand and I was thinking of a person I don’t know. I happened to know their UK phone number. I hesitated for a moment before my resolve swept me into dialing in the numbers. I let it ring once and hung up – never waiting for the recipient on the other side to pick up the call. Was it even completed? Because we don’t actually know each other, and I don’t actually have their contact information – I didn’t feel it appropriate to contact them out of the blue as I was about to. So, the impulse died with that first digital ring.

I went on with my dream, as we do – my mind set adrift in random images, sounds and smells. My attention was brought back to the phone – the apparition in my hand, a particular device that shun against a radiant sun. Missed Call – Message in my Voicemail.

I dial in the code to my voicemail and it is them – they are talking to me – I was informed that they regretted not connecting with me on the phone and they needed desperately to speak to someone. The story commenced and described how they are engaged to a person named ‘Alex’ and they were uncertain (now) whether or not to proceed with the engagement. Issues had come to light about ‘Alex’ that didn’t sit well with them. They continued on in their British Accent telling me about the failure of this relationship and how things deteriorated.

The voice was as though over a ‘Speaking Telegraph.’ A ‘Fuzy‘ screech as though over an old vinyl record played on a wobbly turntable with an old, worn needle. The person on the other side was ‘REAL’ – as real as you are sitting there – I simply never met this person. I just ‘know them.’ As we know anyone, it appears. The detail and ‘realness’ of the dream put me in that place – for that person to unload their anxiety and frustration in their own situation. Being someone outside the construct of their reality. I maintain that everything happened in a ‘Dream State’ and all details remain factual and actual set in our observable reality. The fiction rests only in the fact that it all happened in a Dream… Outside of Reality.

In College – some 20-some years ago – I was on a roadtrip with a classmate – I was having issues at school and wasn’t doing well – my classmate offered to Tutor me for a while and we became friends in third year. On our road trip – we were on our way back to the city we went to school. He was driving and I was chatting about the normal nonsense I normally chat about… I’ve never been in this area before – didn’t know the roads, the towns anything. I told him ‘out of the blue’ to slow down, that there’s a cop ahead… But don’t worry – he’s not paying attention, he’s reading a newspaper… My friend said ‘Sure.’ He didn’t believe me, but he slowed down all the same – about a mile or so up the road was a Seed Store – converted silo pretty much off the side of the road (Highway.) It’s a Sunday, after 5:30 pm (in those days, stores didn’t open on Sundays) and sure enough – a cop sitting in his car, drinking a Timmy’s Coffee and reading a newspaper – nose of his car facing the road… There’s no way I could have seen the cop from a mile out – we just made a huge turn into this small town and there was tons of tree coverage. I’ve never been in this part of the Province before and I didn’t know the habits or behaviors of the local police… He looked at me in utter shock… ‘How the F! did you know that?’ He shouted… I just shrugged and said, “I could hear him.” (from over a mile away.) Whenever, after that day I made a prediction, my friend stopped and listened… It still freaks him out to this day.
