January 2010

Yes, a long absence again.

After much re-designing and re-decorating, we felt this house still did not meet our needs and more importantly, will definitely become a problem as we age due to all the stairs involved in living here. Soon house hunting started in earnest but without haste which is ideal, especially now when it’s a buyers’ market.
Friends laugh because it takes me approximately 30 seconds to know if the house we’re viewing is not ours. I don’t know how I know but I just do.

Finally, not far from where we now live in the foothills of Pasadena, we found “The House” – mid century contemporary, with walls of windows, looking at an acre of large trees. A home tucked into the middle of the woods. A few steps here and there as it is split level but no long staircases. Large open rooms that flow into each other, perfect for entertaining which I have sorely missed.

We have been madly packing, hoping to meet the moving day of January 29. As much as I hate packing, I love ridding myself of all that seems to collect in cupboards, drawers, etc. and as much as I say I will never collect more “things” I seem to continue to collect things.

Last night we attended Terry’s brother’s wedding, a very, very lavish to-do at his country club, where he is president. It was beautiful but during this glitzy evening, I remember telling Terry how grateful I was that he was not his brother. Money, constant travel, constant social events are not our priority by any means. I am happiest at home and probably will always be that way. Terry is more social than I but together, we find a good balance.

The holidays were wonderful, yet simple as we had already begun the packing process. There is nothing as good as spending time with family and dear friends.

My last visit to my cardiologist who treated me when I had the virus in my heart went wonderfully well. My sturdy little body has responded extremely well and we are all pleased about that.

We went to London in July for 10 days. Love that country although being a southern Californian native, I am not fond of their weather. Cold and lots of rain, even in summer. Lost ten pounds and have managed to keep them off since. Found the perfect diet: eat whatever I want but just a little bit.

New Year’s resolution: hope to keep a better record of my life here on a more regular basis.
