Eurovision Semi final number 1

Its that time of year again, where the whole of europe gets together to bicker and whine and generally have a great time loving one another and threatening to go to war and or not come out to play next year, because its too expensive. (Although its all paid for by the BBC and Sweden anyway)

My lovely horse?

Its the Eurovison song contest! Well. Its the FIRST semi final later today. why 2 semi finals? This year there are 42 countries entered. If all 42 countries displayed there wares on the same night the broadcast would be about 9 hours long. So they break it up a bit.

Waterloo!

..Is a lovely train station serving the south and south west London suberbs and home counties, but thats another story. The Voting system has been drastically overhauled this year too. The Semi’s have been jigged about so there is a rough East/west Split to try to stymie any block voting. and in the final, they have decided to try to stop ridiculous voting. Y’know, countries voting for songs which are frankly rubbish beyond belief, but some how manage to make it into the top 5.
That’s right, Juries are back!

Flying the Flag.

Some people say that its all to do with Bloc voting, which I personally dont think exists, but thats a rant for another day. But yes, Juries. Essentially Half the votes cast per country will come from a team of industry experts and musicians who will judge songs on their merit as opposed to “nationalistic fervour” The other half will come from the Televotes. Or to put it another way, Strictly Come Dancing(UK) style.

NOT Strictly Come Dancing Taiwan. The voting system in that is so weird as to be indecipherable, and I still haven’t worked out the Team/couple arrangements yet. There dont seem to be any Pro dancers, Except that bloke that won it last year anyway, and looks set to win it again this year. surely thats not allowed?

“Missä miehet ratsastaa”

Obviously I would be angry at Eurovision if it had interfered with Doctor Who scheduling; this year it’s only preempting Robin Hood, so I’m cool.

What do you think of the UK entry then? The voting system sounds a little bit fairer now, wonder if it will make a huge difference.

I do LOVE eurovision – it’s a chance to wear maxi dresses and wedges and up-dos and eat pineapple on a stick whilst drinking cocktails…. I think Margo from the Good Life is the ultimate Eurovision hostess… But it’s all a bit crap when you spend 4 hours waiting for the votes to be counted in some crummy russian breakaway state and then there’s not an inch of patriotism in the sweepstakewith everyone wanting Montenegro…

It’s like you never went away. Enjoy eurovision dude x

Ugh. I very probably won’t be able to watch the semifinals, or the final. But I’ll def listen to the songs asap. Sounds interesting.

EUROVISION!!! I completely agree with you on the voting thing though, I thought the complaints about block voting where a load of bull thought up by sore losers with crappy songs to complain about. Not that I thought all the successful songs were good, but hey, if most voters have terrible taste, what can you do?

May 12, 2009

And my dear, own Finland this year… are awful! There’s no way we’re making it to the finals. I have to disagree with you on that front. But at least it’s not metal AGAIN.

On a lighter note; Arash who is from Iran, lives in Malmoe. And I love that song! And he is the first popsinger to have a nr1 hit in Sweden with his Persian popmusic. Which I think is rather cool.

For the first time in years I’m not absolutely mortified by the Irish entry. I actually liked the song and was hoping it would win our national song contest. That said, now we’ll probably do absolutely shite again! Enjoy!

RYN: To hire the two lenses, one body and flash that I want would cost more than £150 each day. And, as the weddings aren’t local so I’d need to travel, I’d need to hire them for at least two days which would cost £300. This is more than the budget for the entire photography that these weddings have so it’s not feasible. Thanks, though.

I’m missing the Eurovision this yeaaar! :0( I’m in Spain this weekend, Ii can’t believe it! There is so a bloc voting system! lol The whole of Eastern Europe votes for their Eastern neighbours, in the tit for tat order, I’m sure the Scandanavians do the same.. etc. lol I haven’t even heard the UK entry yet!
