Digital Fairytale

I’m not sure if I mentioned this on this blog, but Bobby and I met through a free dating website. Shortly after my ex broke up with me I updated my profile on that website stating that I had been burned and was looking for someone to restore my faith in men. Bobby found my profile and dropped me a line at the beginning of last May. We spoke online for about 3 weeks and then decided to meet. The rest is history…

I kept that profile active because I wanted to preserve our original correspondence. I figured that maybe we could put parts of it on display at our wedding reception (details on that are forthcoming, but I’ve been told an engagement is imminent in 2011.) This website asks questions and then allows members to answer them to form their profile. I deleted all of my personal information and "essays" and posted that I was happily involved in a serious relationship with someone I had met on that site and that I would not respond to any private messages or IMs.

Then I got one that just HAD to be responded to.

Despite the many signs that I was in a happy, committed, long-term relationship I received the following message:

"if u ever want to screw around on ur boyfriend let me know and we can hook up if u want to" [sic]

This message was sent from a 45 year-old man from Valparasio, Indiana. His profile read that he was a "nice Christian guy looking for someone to love" and other niceties. I responded:

"How can you call yourself a ‘nice Christian guy’ when you’re asking me to cheat on who I describe as the ‘man of my dreams’? You disgust me. Blocked."

Then I blocked him from ever contacting me again.

The nerve of some people…

What the heck is with that man! Do you think he just made up his profile to hit on girls? I find it interesting that you found someone wonderful from a dating website. I keep coming back to that subject everywhere I go, it seems. I often wonder if it’s a sign. But I really don’t feel ready yet. Maybe one day. 🙂
