The People Have Spoken…

With 65% of the votes counted, it looks like Prop 2 will pass here in Texas.  Guess I’m never going to be married.

I just don’t get it.

What exactly is it about me and Joe getting married that upsets people so much?  How exactly would it affect your life if I were permitted to sit by his bedside in a hospital?  How is your marriage threatened if we share our finances and debts equally?  What damage does it do to your family if all my possessions were to be passed on to him after I die?

I just don’t get it.

I wish someone, anyone, would be able to give me just one damn good answer as to why I shouldn’t be able to get married to Joe.  And don’t spout that religous bullshit.  I want a good LEGAL reason, but I know I’ll never get it because there isn’t one.

When I went to vote this morning, I knew Prop 2 would pass, but what really hurts me is the amount of people who voted for it.  I never realized I was so threatening.  Perhaps now is a good time to leave this fucked up country…

It truly is amazing to me how people can even attempt to judge someone else when we don’t want to be judged ourselves. Even though my religion feels homosexuality is a sin, I cannot agree with that. From a religious standpoint, I don’t see how God can choose to love one person over another simply because of sexual orientation. I hope the people of Texas have a change of heart in the future.

In Florida the law specifically states you can only have a legal marriage between a woman who was born a woman and a man who was born a man. But if you drew a line across Florida through Lake Okochobee (got I can’t spell today) the northern part would be republican and the southern part democrats. I hope you and Joe have advanced medical directives, durable powers of attorney, living wills.

I’m so sorry. There is no legal reason.

I think you guys should get married…even if it’s just symbolic. I’m sorry that Texas sucks and won’t let you make it legal. You know, I hear Hawaii is nice… 😉

Random Reader… I’m sorry to hear that your voters are so closed minded. Personally I believe that it doesn’t matter who you fall in love with, just that you are happy that is important. I don’t understand why this concept seems so threatening to some. *hugs* If you don’t mind, I’m going to add you to my faves.
