Life with Shelldon – Day 1

We’ve been inside for weeks and I realized today it had finally broken me.

I rescued a turtle today.

So yes, I went out without really needing anything except a new pair of shoes (since I’ve been wearing slippers everywhere) and a new rabbit cage for the Bun Buns, and also a new Chef knife. Not really essentials, but shit happens.

In any case, I ended up in this janky little pet shop in a beat up strip mall and found this little guy.

I am OBSESSED with turtles, and I felt so bad for him in that tiny little terrarium that I scooped him and all of his supplies up on the spot.

After getting him home I realized that his shell was not in great shape. He has some hard water deposits and a few areas of shell rot. Based on my reattach this basically means that his water wasn’t conditioned and/or his habitat wasn’t humid enough.

Luckily with the proper care it looks like the rot is reversible and the hard water deposits can be cleaned up fairly easily, so I am hoping to see a gorgeous shell in the next few weeks.

I honestly can’t stop watching him in his new home.

I’m excited to see how he adjusts and what adventures he finds , because I have a feeling an outside Turtle area is coming for when it’s warm enough for him outside.

I’m a total loser.  LOL

And this … is what being in the house for 6 weeks does to a person. #savetheturtles.

Also, I never did find a rabbit cage.

I love turtles, they make the best pets! I don’t have any right now, but I’ve had a few over the years – it’s nice that you saved him or her 🙂
