The things, they’re happening.

School is starting to get to that time of the semester where things are picking up.  I was nervous about figuring out a research topic for my thesis, but I somehow pulled through with an idea by the time it was due in class, today.  It hasn’t been refined, yet, but the professor seemed accepting of it.  She likes the go-around-the-room-and-tell-everyone-your-ideas method of stating possible research topics….which I’m ok with, as long as I’ve got something.  I was actually a bit surprised/pleased with my ability to explain mine today.  I really still don’t enjoy doing presentations, but in a way, I’m glad we’re being pushed to do them.  Giving one comfortably and confidently is a goal I’m striving to eventually meet, not only for myself, but because I know that if I’m going to be a leader in my field, I’m going to have to be able to do it often.

I’ve been straying more away from focusing on the negatives of being alone, and more toward the benefits of doing things for myself.

I started the Couch to 5K running program about 2 and a half weeks ago.  I’ll be moving onto Week 3 this Friday.  Still on the treadmill, but planning to switch to outside sometime in March.  I’m thankful I have Tamara and Megan to help keep my motivation up.

Started learning guitar this past weekend.  Getting E major/minor and A major/minor chords down for my next lesson.  Adapting my hand/fingers will definitely be a hurdle, but I’m excited enough about playing that it hasn’t detracted me at all.  I’m so eager to eventually get to the point when I’ll be able to play and sing, all at once!  For now, I’ve been borrowing one of Alex’s guitars, just until I get my own.

I’m seeing Lelia Broussard tomorrow in Philly.  She’s been posting pictures with various people throughout her tour, so maybe I’ll have something to post up tomorrow night :).  Going alone, as no one wanted to or could go, but my favorite people always make me happy no matter what.  They help to keep me afloat.  I love them.  Ingrid was awesome last week, by the way.  I’ve already purchased my ticket for her show at a larger venue in May.  I ended up going alone this time because of a really frustrating situation with the person who was going to go with me, but my friend Jaime is planning on going in May.  Also got a ticket (with meet and greet!) to see Kina Grannis in April (she’s the one who inspired me to start running now in preparation for a 5K in June through her project for the LLS).  Going to be SO excited to tell her about my progress with running, because if all goes according to plan, by then, I’ll have gotten through all of C25K and be working on increasing speed at that point.  And, Don is going with me; just bought his ticket last night.  So many awesome people!!

Must get sleep, now!

Guitar’s a weird thing to learn (as opposed to piano with its logical key layout, or one of the…most…instruments that are normally used to play one note at a time). Eh, just start by learning powerchords and jamming to…every rock song ever. “Hey, I taught myself another Green Day song!”
