White Christmas????

Dear Diary,

In the scheme of things, with everything that is going on with the weather in other states across the U.S., I guess it’s not a big deal to have snow.  But when the last recorded snowfall for here was in 1998 (or maybe they said 1989…whatever…) it does get to be a big deal.  Here on the Gulf Coast of Texas, snow is not a common occurrence.  We live about 60 miles from Galveston and are more familiar with hurricanes.

One of my favorite snow memories occurred about 20 years ago on our first trip to Cincinnati to visit Aunt Kitty and Uncle Roy. They were actually my hubby’s great aunt and uncle. They had no children and were thrilled that we were coming and bringing our boys, ages 5 and 9…or maybe 4 and 8.  First question out of the youngest’s mouth when we landed and met up with Aunt Kitty was, “Is it going to snow???” She chuckled as she gently hugged him and said, “No, sweetheart, it’s not.  It doesn’t usually snow here until later.”  Not happy with her reply, he moved on to Uncle Roy. Same question. Same response.  Collecting our baggage, piling into their car and heading home seemed simple enough. Much conversation flowed with several comments from the youngest….”Are you sure it isn’t going to snow?”…”I really want it to snow”…”Maybe it will snow..: Aunt Kitty finally said that the weatherman hadn’t predicted snow but that we would watch the news when we returned home.

I don’t remember what time it was when we finally retired for the night. I remember that Aunt Kitty made us feel like royalty in her home .  The boys slept in  the living room which they thought was sooo cool.  It took a while to settle them down  but finally we were all tucked in.

Gracious, the screaming that took place at 7 a.m. the next morning would have woke the dead!  “t’s snowing, it’s snowing!” the little one cried as he burst into our room.  “Come see, mama” , he said as he tugged on my arm.   Just as quickly as he came, he went. The whole house made its way to the front room where we found both boys in a chair , with noses pressed to the window, looking out.  “See I told you” I told you it was gonna snow”!  The little one was jumping all around, joined by big brother in the happy dance.   The Texans came for snow and so it snowed.  Later on, Uncle Roy asked the little one how he knew it was going to snow. With a smile, the little one said, “I prayed for it”.

Who would have thought that we’d be celebrating the birth of Christ this year with a…

…white Christmas???

I have been wondering about Brushstrokes. Have you heard anything? I guess he passed away or we would have heard from him.

Happy New Year Sweetie and thanks for stopping by, the other day. I hope things are going well for you. Take care now … Love Annie xx

I can’t believe everyone South of us got snow. The worst thing I’ve faced this winter is gof & drizzle. *sighs* I’d get anything for some snow! *sighs*

Geez … as soon as I hit Leave Note I saw it! *snickers* That last sentence should have read: I’d give anything for some snow!
